MICHAEL PINEDA is in the majors with the Tigers. Visa problems gave him and Detroit a mutual agreement to start the season at AAA Toledo, where he was scheduled to make three starts to get into shape. Needs have shortened that stay!

Now that made me laugh. I know this is outdated now, but nonetheless, Pineda....... getting into shape? Kind of an oxymoronic thought said that way.... maybe "gets his pitching arm ready" might be the process.

Thank you Rosterman, for doing these updates - amazing coverage. A ton of fun to see and keep up with.

First 24 Padres games.

Taylor Rogers has 10 saves (out of 16 wins by the team). 11 appearances, 10.2 innings. 10 K, 1 BB, 4 hits. 0.00 for the season.

Looks like on the road to a HUGE payday for 2023.

Sigh..........

Calvin Faucher, who the Twins shipped along with NELSON CRUZ to the Rays, got the call to the majors. Taking the place of RALPH GARZA JR. , who was farmed out for the second time.

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/05/rays-recall-calvin-faucher-option-ralph-garza-jr-to-triple-a.html

1 quick games for Calvin, then back to AAA - with a 45.00 era.

In other news, Akil Baddoo was demoted by the Tigers.

Mariners acquired RHP Prelander Berroa from the Giants for INF Donovan Walton.

Berroa, 22, had raced out to an impressive 0.68 ERA and 16/6 K/BB ratio through 13 1/3 innings (four starts) this season with High-A Eugene. He'll report now to High-A Everett in the Mariners' system.

Berroa was part of the Dyson trade, which leaves the Giants with just Kai-Wei Teng (who is a starter at AA). Jaylin Davis is with the Red Sox and is at AAA.

Luis Gil was up to New York for a game and sent back to minors.

Red Sox have designated Jaylin Davis, and Los Angeles Angels AARON WHITEFIELD for reassignmeent.

Astros sent NIKO GOODRUM to minors.

RALPH GARZA JR. had his third call up with the Rays, since he Twins let him go in spring training, the Red Sox claimed him, then dropped him from their 40-man, before he ws claimed by Tampa..

Miami has called up Lewin Diaz. Then sent him back down.

Toronto calls up ANDREW VASQUEZ...again!

Former first round pick Luke Bard has been recalled by the Rays.

Luke Bard was one of those fringe bullpen arms that showed signs of being a Twin until a bad year in AAA ball. Interestingly he was brought in to replace another former Twins prospect, Chris Mazza, who has gone onto a longer IL-list.

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/05/rays-add-luke-bard-to-40-man-roster.html

The Rays develop so many arms, but somehow they seem to also have become the home for Minnesota Twins castaways.

Besides the above two, they have Ralph Garza Jr., Nick Anderson, J.T. Chargois, Calvin Faucher, Brooks Raley, Matt Wisler, Aaron Slegers and Dusten Knight on their 40-man roster or at AAA ball.

Anyone from this list that you would love to see back in the Twins pen?

Due to COVID, TAYLOR MOTTER returns to the major leagues with the Cincinnati Reds.

Motter had a frightful 9-game stint with the Twins back in 2018.

Not a transaction, but MLB Trade Rumors is reporting that Mitch Garver won’t be returning to catching any time soon. Garver suffered an arm injury and was on the IL for 10 days. Meanwhile Ranger catchers, outside of Mitch, have done just fine. Garver will DH and possibly could get some reps at first base.

As we end springtime and head into summer, let’s look and see, over the next few days, what some of our former Minnesota Twins major league players have been doing for other teams in baseball.

Between the majors and minors, there is slightly more than 100 players who have donned the major league uniform of Our Twins.

Today, we are going to look at the pitchers we once cheered!

JOSE BERRIOS is 3-2 in 9 starts, 4.75 ERA and a whip of 1.44 and we might see him in the upcoming series in Toronto. Won’t that be...exciting? He had a bad couple of starts, but has settled in nicely. RICH HILL is 1-1, 3.14 with a whip of 1.15 in 8 starts for the Red Sox. KYLE GIBSON over in Philadelphia is 3-2 3.94 with a 1.27 whip in 9 starts. Remember, we let this guy walk in arbitation. Thought JAKE ODORIZZI was going down, but he is back in the Astros rotation whre he has a 3-2 record, 3.18 ERA with a 1.19 whip in 7 starts. MARTIN PEREZ has been a surprise for the Rangers, 3-2, 1.64 with a 1.01 whip in 8 starts. MICHAEL PINEDA got a late start this season as well as a trip to the IL-list, but is 1-2 3.22 in 5 starts with a 1.07 whip for the hapless Tigers. LANCE LYNN continues to ride the IL list for the White Sox.

In bullpen land: LIAM HENDRIKS is 1-2, 3.48 with 14 saves and a 1.29 whip for the White Sox. RYAN PRESSSLY is 1-1, 3.00 with 6 saves and a 1.22 whip for the Astros.ALEX COLOME has settled in with the Rockies, 1-2 3.79, with 2 saves but a 1.88 whip. TREVOR MAY was shut down by the Mets after gaining 1 save and a win, with a high 8.94 era and 1.92 whip. Everyone’s favorite TAYLOR ROGERS has been lights out in San Diego with 16 saves in 19 chances, an 0.47 ERA and 0.67 whip.

HANSEL ROBLES has pitched 16 games for the Red Sox, 1-1 3.95 with a 1.26 whip. JT CHARGOIS was shut down by the Rays after 1 game and throwing two outs. MATT WISLER, also with the Rays, is 2-1 3.00 ERA and a 1.19 whip in 18 games. SERGIO ROMO is 0-0 1.13 ERA in 8 games, with a 1.22 whip, SEAN POPPEN is 1-0 in 10 games with the Diamondbakcs, 3.27 ERA and 1.36 whip.

ZACK LITTELL is 0-1 6.32 in 14 games with a 1.53 whip with the Giants. RALPH GARZA JR. is 0-1 5.06 in 7 appeaerances with the Rays and a 1.59 whip. ANDREW VASQUEZ os 0-0 9.82 in five appearances with a 1.90 whip with the Blue Jays. CHASE DE JONG is 1-0 2.00 in 9 games with the Pirates, with a 0.83 whip. TYLER KINNEY is 1-1 1.10 in 18 games, 1.16 whip with the Rockies. BRUSDAR GRATEROL has pitched 17 games for the Dodogers, 0-2 3.50 ERA and 1.22 whip. KYLE BARRACLOUGH was a recent call-up by the Angels and is 0-1 1.17 in 6 games with a 1.04 whip. JOHN CURTISS in on the Rays longterm disabled list.

Coming Saturday: Batters.

Coming Sunday: Minor League and Other Ball former Twins.

It has definitely been the Year of the Pitcher, and even the worst of the former journeymen that the Twins employed, as seen in yesterdays post, have fared well on the mound.

But not so the hitters.

If the Twins catchers are struggling, former catchers are even doing...worse. Yet to catch a game for the Yankees is BEN RORTVEDT. MITCH GARVER is pretty much a DH coming of an IL-stint and is batting .219 21/96 with 5 homers and 10R/10RBI and a .709 OPS in Texas. JASON CASTRO’s Astros line is .103 , 4/39 3R period and a .393 OPS. KURT SUZUKI is batting .186, 8/48, 1 homer 6R/9RBS and a .550 OPS.

C.J. CRON is the basher, hitting .311 51/164 with 11 HR 26R/32RBI and a .941 OPS in Coors Field. JONATHAN SCHOOP is hitting .178 27/162 with 4HRs 13R/9RBI and a .520 OPS, plus a stolen base! ANDRELTON SIMMONS recently returned to the Cubs lineup and is batting .261 6/23 3R/4RBI and a .553 OPS. JOSH DONALDSON and his millions is hitting .238 31/130 with 5 dingers 17R/15RBI and a .764 OPS for the Yankees. Willians Astudillo is 0-2 from his recent callup by the Marlins.

MARWIN GONZALEZ may be on the outs as a super utility guy, hitting .205 9/44 5R/3RBI and a .538 OPS. NIKO GOODRUM was demoted by the Astros after hitting .116 5/43 with a homer 2R/1RBI .318 OPS and a stolen base. EHIRE ANDRIANZA has yet to play for The Nats. J.T. RIDDLE went 1-4 with the Reds and TAYLOR MOTTER 1-6 before being optioned out. ILDEMARO VARGAS batted .130 3/23 with a homer and 4R/4RBI and .579 for the Cubs before being outrighted and becoming, again, a free agent, recently siging with The Nats and assigned to Rochester. Favorite EDUARDO ESCOBAR is batting .229 with the Mets, 35/153 with 2 homers 19R/11RBI and a .690 OPS.

Not much happening in the world of former outfielders. Best was ROB REFSNYDER going 2-5 with the Yankees before going back to AAA land. ROBBIE GROSSMAN is batting .189 25/132 11R/10RBI and a .533 OPS with the Tigers. AARON HICKS is hitting .216 24/111 with a homer and 14R/7RBI and a .723 OPS, plus 5 stolen bases – Go Aaron! LAMONTE WADE is 6/25 batting .240 with a homer and 4R/6RBI and a .735 OPS for the Giants. AARON WHITEFIELD came up and went 0-11 with the Angels. And EDDIE ROSARIO is sitting on the IL-list after starting the season .068 3/44 and a .254 OPS for the Braves.

NELSON CRUZ is hitting .219 33/151 for The Nats with 4 homers and 19R/23RBI and a .603 OPS.

Coming Sunday: Former Twins in the minors and other baseball leagues.

I've been doing this list stuff for ages, largely for fellow autographers. And especially for the long defunct Twinscards site where I illustrated yearly rosters (majors and minors) with player autographed cards. I originally got into collecting Twins autographs, then anyone on the 40-man. It expanded to those that were in the Twins system but made the majors with other teams. And as I got more into minor league card sets, I pretty much track anyone A-level and above. I also go over the draft records on BaseballCube as it is a powerhouse for tracking those drafted players...and started to be taken by the number of guys that never signed with the Twins but went onto careers with other teams. Far from perfect, and my mind forgets names over each year. But I have fun...still, after 50+ years sending out letters to Twins-related players with images for autographing.

Where do you get contact info for getting autographs?

Join this group for a modest yearly fee. Keeps you up to date on (paid) signings. Plus you can plug in most any player and see the results for collectors, as well as get current address info on most players.

https://www.sportscollectors.net/login.aspx?ReturnUrl=MessageBoardSearch.aspx%3fp%3d1%26f%3d0%26k%3d%26mn%3d

Plus you can also get great lists for many sports here. The baseball one is issued yearly in January, and if you buy it you get periodic emails for new addresses during the year.

https://sportsaddresslists.com/

For ALL current players, you should write them via the team. But be aware that Colorado and Detroit, of late, have centralized autograph requests as a donation to their community funding drive.

Autographing STILL IS Fun! And can still happen, although seems to be getting harder and hArder with new players as they are signing thru events with certified services or card companies these days. Twins USED TO BE GREAT with access before the game at the Metrodome (no more at Target Field), as well as TwinsFest and the now long-gone summer autograph party.

wRC+ puts hitters on a 100=average scale based on run contribution as an attempt at a wholistic hitting stat.

For reference CJ Cron has a 154 wRC+,

Lamont Wade 119 wRC+

Cruz 87 wRC+

it’s a new paradigm in the new dead ball era. Batting average/OPS have significantly shifted this year.

The Mets have acquired shortstop J.T. RIDDLE from the Reds. Riddle, who appeared in four games with the Twins in 2021, appeared in two games with the Reds this season.

He will offer minor league infield depth for the Mets, who already have former Twins TRAVIS BLANKENHORN and TZU-WEI LIN in their system.
