Just checked in on Thorpe's performance to see he was yanked after 1.1 innings. I think Statcast was actually confused with Thorpe's changeup and fastball due to the velocities being the same. Fastballs 85-88mph. He should be DFA after the game regardless of whether or not he's injured.

Yikes. So I guess that question has been answered. A bummer for Thorpe because he had real potential when he sat at 92mph.

No - thanks for the update!   I was even watching and wasn't entirely sure what the injury to him was.   With a shoulder injury that may be it for his time as a Twin.

He still has an option, therefore he would not be DFA'd, just sent down.  If the Twins are truly done with him, they would have to outright release him, at which point he would almost certainly be snapped up by a team and converted to a reliever immediately (which is probably what the Twins should have been doing with him this whole year).

Wow. Just tuned in to see that Thorpe did just as I expected. It seems once the FO thinks they have a good prospect, they will waste endless time with him. It was pretty eveident that Thorpe was not what they hoped 2 years ago. But just kept beating that dead drum into the ground. So many would say, you know, all that stuff he has. Never saw it. Never got the hope or excitement. That coupled with his mental challanges.... it might be best to play Australian ball and be in his homeland, or just move on with his life. 

I seriously doubt many are looking for a soft tossing reliever that can't stay healthy, but someone will probably give him a minor league contract to try. I hope it is not us. Time to move on. Past time to move on.

I see they have gone from collecting errors to collecting walks. I want to see Joe Ryan.

He has a 102 wRC+ before today, and 127 wRC+ in 116 second half PA's, while maintaining a 30% k rate, and a 14% bb rate, and making over 50% hard contact and under 10% soft contact.  He has a .919 OPS and a 135 wRC+ in high leverage situations.  Sano is not the superstar we hoped he'd be in the early 2010's, and never will be, but the idea that he's not a perfectly acceptable 5-7 hole hitter is silly.

Also TD posters:  The FO gives up on prospects too soon!  Just look at Baddoo, Wade, and Ynoa!

Teams aren't allowed to option injured players, or waive/outright them during the regular season. (They can DFA them for trade or release, though.)

Of course, in Thorpe's case, they'd just put him on the 10-day IL, and transfer him to the 60-day IL if they need the 40-man roster spot at some point.

They have no crystal ball to see who will do what, all they can do is play them and observe.

This is true, but my point was that the Twins are not going to sever all ties with Thorpe right now, therefore there would not be a DFA.  Thorpe will either sit on the MLB IL (and move to the 60 day as you noted if needed), or they will claim he's fine, and then option him.  I imagine in the offseason is when the Twins will either release him, or try to convince him to sign a minor league deal.

Still he’s not worth waiting for, but tell me I’m silly again and see if that changes my mind
