Matt Capps is available - any takers?

Would he really be that much worse than some of the others who will come in from the bullpen this year? Granted, I wouldn't give him the closer role, but he wasn't the worst reliever we've had the past couple of years.

My guess is he gets another chance somewhere this year after injuries start to mount up.

It has nothing to do with how good or how bad he is.

It has everything to do with what he represents.

He's not the worst reliever we've ever had around these parts, but he's definitely the worst reliever that we've ever traded a top 100 prospect to acquire, then forfeited a sandwich pick to keep.

I'd bring him back, he's a good enough guy and could be a solid 6th/7th inning guy for us, who cares that they traded him for Ramos.. its about what can help us win in 2013, not holding some stupid grudge.

I would rather be eviscerated than watch Matt Capps pitch in a Twins uniform. He had the same effect on my enthusiasm as a Twins fan as Ron Davis. No lead was safe. It got to the point where I would just say, "why bother to watch if Capps is going to just blow this lead?" If that was the effect it had on me, imagine the effect it had on the team.

that said, I wouldn't because he needs a new start elsewhere. And, I know some Twins fans are all about getting an extra win or two this year, in the long term, I'd much rather keep Ryan Pressly than go with Capps for a year.

Agreed 100%. I haven't seen him Pressly pitch yet, but everything I'm reading/hearing about him sounds like he's worth keeping around. I'd rather go with him over Capps.

So they rush Hicks to the majors to appease impatient fans and generate a minuscule increase in attendance, and then they flip those same fans off twice a week by trotting out a poster child for the Bill Smith Apocalypse?

interesting marketing strategy. While they're at it, how about a Carlos Gomez or JJ Hardy bobble head giveaway? Dollar Lemon Juice on Paper Cut Night? How about Get Hit by a Line Drive Right on the Shin Day?

THey are not signing him. They could have signed him in the offseason and declined. As several have posted, there are plenty of better arms in camp right now.

I know that, you know that, we all know that. But the Twins are still managing the roster using the same Jedi scouting powers that led them to Kevin F. Correia, so saying that any poor decision is out of the realm of possibility seems like wishful thinking to me.

Its not about holding a grudge. Its because the FO has proven that they cant be trusted when it comes to Matt Capps.

They dont see him as the decent MR arm that he is, they see him (or did) as some elite, lights out reliever. I dont want them to have another opportunity to waste any more resources on this guy.

What are you talking about? Going into last year he was never considered some elite reliever or whatever you are trying to claim they did, they went into it saying he would be a 7th inning guy.

Good lord, you guys need to really stop with the whole "the twins front office is incompetant" crap, not only is it garbage it is completely inaccurate.

You dont trade a top 100 prospect AND forfeit a sandwich pick for a freaking relief pitcher unless you view him as a lights out, dominant guy.

Slightly above average middle relievers just are not worth anywhere close to that much compensation.

Actually, Capps was the closer until June.

I don't know if we should sign him or not, or even if he would take league minimum. But if not, let's make sure it's for the right reasons. If we pass on him, let it be because we want to use the spot to develop younger talent or because we don't think he's a significant enough upgrade to what we have. Let's not fall prey to making personnel decisions based on what bulletin board posters are saying or because of PR fears or because of lingering resentment over a bad deal made two years ago.

The OP was asking what WE thought, it wasnt an open letter to the Twins FO.
