Dick relating how people didn't like Mercedes' 9th inning homer last night, one of whom was La Russa.  This is the crap that's ruining baseball.  It's a hitter's job to hit; is he supposed to just stand there and let every pitch sail past him?  If you don't want the other team to try and score, just forfeit.

No, this isn’t the crap that is ruining baseball. This was a "courtesy" extended to all teams, by all other teams over the decades. And I doubt there is any rational debate that today’s game is better than the eras that preceded this one. Every team, in every season has games like last night, and will often close it out with a position player. That swing wasn’t about winning or losing, it was simply about being a jerk. Again, hitting the HR wasn’t the problem. Swinging on the 3-0 was. It’s the same reason teams in basketball don’t shoot in their last possession which a solid lead, and football teams don’t kick field goals with the game in the bag!

Lynn looks like he might enjoy a few of the scotch eggs that I have in the oven.  I went with eggs, because they are potentially chicken.

If those eggs you put in the oven turn into chickens, canonization might be in your future.

Well stated, my man.

It's ruining baseball because it's evidence of an attitude that results in boring, passionless, uninteresting baseball.  This is a problem, because it drives a lack of interest, which forces MLB to try and do things to maintain popularity.

They scored 16 runs, Larussa and the White Sox are gonna be anything but uninteresting this season

Basketball teams often do shoot in their last possession if the shot clock will expire before the game clock.  Football teams don't kick field goals, but they do try to pick up first downs (until such time as they can kneel out the clock).  However, in that last intsance, there is a contract being made.  The offense is saying we won't try any more, but only if you don't try either.  So that's where my issue comes from.  If the Twins don't want the White Sox to try, because they don't intend to try, then just forfeit.  Swinging on 3-0 is not disrespectful.  If you don't want a guy to swing on 3-0 when his team is up by a bunch in the 9th, then don't be down by a bunch in the 9th, or don't fall behind 3-0.

You're talking about situations after the fact.  You might as well say, If you don't want to be disrespected, then win the game, which is a given.

Well then I imagine there isn’t anything wrong with stealing in the too of the ninth up ten? Very classy!

No, I'm saying if you don't want to be behind a hitter 3-0, don't start the plate appearance with 3 straight balls.  I'm saying a hitter attempting to hit is not disrespectful.

It's very early, but Larnack has the 'look' of a Major Leaguer.  Hopefully, he can hit like one.

He's going to have to, because his defense certainly isn't going to do any favors to keep him on the field
