SUNDAY UPDATES

4:15 p.m. CT

MLB.com's Do-Hyoung Park reports that the Twins aren't expected to reveal their roster until tomorrow. What a buzzkill.

3:45 p.m. CT

Darren Wolfson reported that reliever Danny Coulombe, who was a non-roster invitee in spring training, will be on the 60-man roster. Coulombe, a left-hander, struck out seven batters and gave up one run over four innings of work prior to spring training being suspended. He has 153 MLB games under his belt, most of which came with Oakland.

3:00 p.m. CT

Ope, deadline passed. Guess we're back to no Twins baseball this year. :)

2:35 p.m. CT

The Cincinnati Reds have also now announced the players going to what they're calling Summer Camp. Sounds wholesome. An item of note is they've elected to leave three open spots on their roster, at least for now.

1:45 p.m. CT

The Tampa Bay Rays have become the first team to reveal its full 60-man roster. An interesting item to note is that they have split the to pool into 37 players who will be training at Tropicana Field and 23 who will be based in Port Charlotte, which is Tampa Bay's spring training site.

The Twins are expected to use CHS Field, which normally hosts the St. Paul Saints, as the home of their "taxi squad."

1:10 p.m. CT

Seth has confirmed down in the comments that catching prospect Ryan Jeffers will be a member of this 60-man roster. That means four of Twins Daily's current top-six prospects have made the cut. Will Jordan Balazovic and/or Jhoan Duran join Lewis, Kirilloff, Larnach and Jeffers?

It would be a surprise if Duran was left off, given that he's on the 40-man roster, but that doesn't guarantee he'll make the cut. Remember, teams can make changes to this 60-player pool.

Earlier Updates

Dan Hayes of The Athletic reported that the top prospects in the Twins system are likely to be among those headed to the Twin Cities for camp.

In addition to Royce Lewis, Alex Kirilloff and Trevor Larnach, Darren Wolfson of KSTP added Brent Rooker’s name to the list.

As seen above, Wolfson also reported that Northfield native and former Twins and St. Paul Saints pitcher Caleb Thielbar will also be among the players in camp. Expect there to be a mix of both prospects and minor league veterans among the pool of players included. It’s worth pointing on that not everyone currently on the team’s 40-man roster is guaranteed to be participating in camp.

No player outside of this pool of 60 players will be allowed to participate in training camp. There can be changes made to the 60-man roster, but once someone has been removed from a team's pool, they cannot be re-added to that same team's pool.

Could also be me.

Sometimes I really get the feeling that the Twins like to tax our patience...

Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I understand the Twins notify the League of their roster and the League releases it. After what all fans have been thru the past three months, wouldn't you expect the league to tax your patience a bit more?

The teams are announcing their rosters... I mean, the ones that have announced their rosters...

Initial 60-man roster thoughts... the #MNTwins have some of their top prospects that are in at least AA, but they chose their veteran, minor league free agents, most with MLB service time. Tells me they are in it to win it.

I think that's OK actually. Sure, I'd like to see Balazovic, Enlow, Canterino, Javier, Baddoo, etc. But, 40-man roster spots are valuable. The minor league veterans are more ready to contribute to what we all think will be a really strong team. And, no need to worry about DFAing.

Also, they have room to add thanks to two players on the restricted list and presumably Chacin being on the 30-man roster and such.

But do any of those veterans actually help the team if it comes to that? If it gets to the point that Tovar or Adams is actually needed, things have gone south in a hurry.

Sure, but only after several rounds of ultimately fruitless negotiations with the players where neither side is willing to budge.

Overall, I'm not terribly disappointed or surprised by many of the guys included.

The 3 I would've like to see included:

- Jake Reed. I feel he's earned a shot, but for whatever reason he doesn't seem destined to get it in this organization.

- Wander Javier. Taking a full season off will likely not further his development and getting more instruction and being around guys that are closer to "making it" than he is could have been beneficial.

- Jordan Balazovic. I genuinely think he could help the team at some point - even if it was as a pen arm down the stretch. Maybe the Canada thing has something to do with it?

Not necessarily... This team is strong and deep and any one player being out for awhile will hurt but shouldn't be the end of the world. For Tovar to get called up, maybe Polanco gets hurt and another SS option gets COVID... You have to make sure you're covered three deep at least at each position. And guys like Tovar, Renheimer are definitions of 'Replacement Level Player" but if they can make the plays at short, hold things down, the other 8 in the lineup and this pitching staff can make up for it.

Balazovic has been in Ft. Myers the whole time.

Nothing surprising there.

The fall of Fernando Romero has been tragic. One day he’s a top prospect lighting up the majors. Gaining steam around the MLB as a future star, a sensation. The next, an afterthought.

I guess that’s why there’s no such thing as a pitching prospect.

I was thinking this too.  I knew he had visa issues in spring training.  Was that why he was on the restricted list?  Or did I miss something during all of this?

Balazovic being off the roster is the only head scratcher for me. Jake Reed was bad last year and the FO has never seemed to think of him as more than just a guy. The rest of the younger players are likely too far off in case they are needed to play.

The Ft. Myers facility was shut down, wasn't it? Will it re-open, Seth? So players like Balazovic, Rortvedt and others can continue to get some work in this summer?

Are you aware of the Twins scheduling formal instructional camps later this summer and fall? Like the FIL they used to run every October/November? Or are they winging it and will think about that after they get the season started?
