Spring Training/Ft. Myers Question

Lover's Key State Park is nice (it closes at sundown so hard to watch a game and make it to the park, best to do this on an off day)

Sanibel Island beaches are open late (past 9:00 pm, expect to pay for parking).  Much of Sanibel Island is a wildlife refuge.  So plenty to do if you are into birding and wildlife.  There are also several other wild life preserves in the area.

Everglades National Park is about 1.5 hours south.  You can go kayaking or get an airboat ride through the marshes.  Plenty of airboat tours in Marco Island or along Rt 41 and also plenty of kayaking tours.  Everglades is very unique and worthwhile if you have not been there.

The Red Sox stadium (Jet Blue Park) is near by.  It is a replica of Fenway so worthwhile to catch a Red Sox game as well if you have time and can get tickets.

When there is a night game, do they still have practice in the morning, or in the afternoon before the game?

When there is an away game, those not traveling with the team stay behind and get their work in. I’m not sure about the practice schedule when it’s a night game. And the minor league side has stuff going on. Their official report date is Mar. 3 so you’ll see even more going on, including games, after that time.

So, its been a few years since I went to a Spring Training game. I'll be in the area again this year. Looks like tickets have gotten more scarce, as I was looking at the game vs St Louis on March 9 and there is nothing left online (Twins site) except standing room or outfield grass. Back in the day, I used to just get tickets from people hawking them outside the stadium, usually for not much over list price, or even less. Do people still sell them this way or have the Stubhubs of the world destroyed the "scalper-ish" on site availability market?

No. But you can tailgate. Sometimes you aren’t parked in the best spot to do that, but people do.

they let me bring in an 8x8x12 cooler with food last year. Water bottles had to be sealed. No soda. We brought in chips and sandwiches for the 4 of us (wife and two young kids) and a bag of peanuts.

And you have to bring your own food/drinks to the backfields...

Correction

16x16x8 single compartment soft sided cooler is allowed. Water, milk, (sealed) and “medically necessary food” are allowed.

From your link:

"Food – Guests may bring food into the CenturyLink Sports Complex required for legitimate medical purposes only."

EDIT: Sorry, missed your correction.

If you're coming down for autographs and photos, don't bother.  As of today there are no autographs, high fives, hand shakes or photos allowed from any players.  This coronavirus has MLB on alert.  I wonder if they'll even play games.
