Front Page: Twins Game Recap (9/17): Twins Win Wild Game on a Walk Off Hit-By-Pitch

Why not?

Romero at least has stuff that can get a K when needed and be successful. The book is out on Harper. Lay off the breaking pitch, and sit on his fastball and absolutely crush it - which is what the guy did.

Oh ye of short memory. Remember Romero on Sunday? Harper had to come in and clean up the game. Harper had 3 scoreless outings vs Boston, Cleveland X2 going into last nights game. In the 12th inning absolutely the right call. Had he been brought in Sunday maybe we win that one too!

The radio guys said Wade had a great secondary lead, and broke for third instantly.

Great hustle, great play. What more could you ask for.

You absolutely have to break instantly on that.    If you have to take time to consider whether the third baseman is in position or anything else then you cannot go.    You have to rely on instinct and I believe he thought that ball would go farther than it did so I think his instinct was wrong.     I'm glad he went, we probably don't tie if he didn't go but it needs to be a 80-90% chance and I think it was more like a 20% chance.   I'm not speaking for everyone but I am pretty sure if the catcher grabs it cleanly, the 3rd baseman isn't sleeping and the throw is decent then Wade gets thrown out easily and fans aren't saying stuff like great hustle or great play.   Sometimes good decisions turn out poorly because the other team makes a fantastic play (think Rosario's throw last week)  and sometimes poor decisions turn out great because the other team did not execute.    I think that play was leaning heavily in that direction.

Come-from-behind wins like this balance out the come-from-ahead losses that didn't have to happen -- like against Cleveland on Sunday and the Miami game we were ahead 4-1 in the 9th and lost in extras.

Meantime, I predict a Detroit victory today over the Indians, and should the Rays beat the Dodgers that would put Cleveland behind the 8-ball in the wild card race.

This team just isn't good enough to win in the playoffs right now.

I doubt you'll find many of us who strongly disagree with this assessment, but if you don't mind waiting until after the regular season is over before peeing in the punchbowl, that would be great.  ;)

It's such a fun party!

Completely agree! LOL I've coached for 19 years and one thing I've learned is to celebrate the good times. They don't last and not everyone wins the World Series, Super Bowl, or state championship.

The goal for the Twins starting these last 13 games was to win every series; 2-1 against Chicago, 3-1 against the Royals, 2-1 against the Tigers, 2-1 against the Royals.  Add that up, and it's 9-4--with a magic number of 9, that makes anything Cleveland does irrelevant.

Last night's win secured the series win, so today we play with house money.  Keep in mind that these 3 games with the White Sox were/are the hardest games left on our schedule.  By far.

Also, for the September thing next year, even if the Twins aren't allowed to pick 28 players from the 40 man for every series, they can still have the shuttle up and running, just from Fort Myers instead of Rochester.

Giving up a five run lead against a terrible team, thrashing the bullpen, and going from a good pace to a drag?

Hardly.

This team just isn't good enough to win in the playoffs right now.

I agree that was not my favorite type of game but after watching I'm more convinced the Twins in the playoffs is going to be fun!!! If the @$&+##&anks hit a three run dinger I'll be all like yeah, so!!!
