Sam Dyson to IL

Recommended Posts

A highly reliable Youtube video says that The Shark is a better value than Dyson, so maybe the Twins should start hoping that lefty PH Gerardo Parra becomes available as a waiver acquisition.

Parra’s ERA is so terrible, not even the 3 Inherited Runners Scored allowed by Brian Dozier can hurt Parra’s ERA!

Pretty much. Mejia also went on the IL. Magill started the year on the IL too, I suppose. Does Addison Reed count?

Hildenberger is on the IL for Rochester.

Incredibly, despite only being on the active roster for 6 weeks, Hildenberger is STILL top 40 in the AL with 19 inherited runners.

The only Twins pitcher who has inherited more is Ryne Harper, who is second in the AL with 36.

Don’t know anything about this malady but is it possible that the circus of events for him set this up, such as fatigue, adrenaline, and over pitching? In any case, this may be a blessing as he’ll have time now to reset and start anew when he returns, hopefully.

7 straight very tough and important games starting on Monday. It's probably too much to expect Romo and Rogers to finish all 7 of them? Or for Smeltzer to throw 6 scoreless innings on Friday against Cleveland? Or for Duffey to put up 4 zeroes over the next 7 games? Or for May to even throw one complete inning?

This turn of events sure doesn't look like a blessing in the short run. Rather, it now seems quite possible that that 3 game lead might be gone by this time next Sunday night.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never seen anything like this in all my following baseball. Maybe it has happened, but I can't remember.

Roenis Elías was traded from Seattle to Washington last week and was also just put on the IL. It has happen before and it happen last week.

Too many are unable to divine satire, or even subtlety for that matter, on the internet.

As satire, "LOL. Seriously. LOL." falls just a hair short of Swiftian. :)

It was kind of the opposite of subtle, as well.

The problem IMO isn't whether it's satire, or even humor in general, but the lack of actual content in the post. In writing, rather than where visual cues are available, a laugh is subject to interpretation, and individuals may differ. What was the intent? It could be a charitable "Ha. That's Murphy's Law for you." It could be a mocking "Ha. They can't get anything right." It could be cynical "Ha. We're being lied to."

What, for that matter, is the laughter directed at? The situation? The player? The Front Office? The fan who feels invested in the team? Honestly, it felt a lot like the latter, to me. That's going to get some people's dander up.

It could be a lot of things, and when it's that ambiguous, the writer doesn't really have much right to complain if readers interpret it differently than was intended.

The solution I recommend is to write in a way that actually expresses a thought. But that's harder; one's thought might get rebutted. A "LOL" isn't usually rebuttable. It's safe and cozy.

Did we fail to receive the medicals on Dyson before this?

No, we got the medicals. It was likely a quick review, to be sure, but "medicals" just don't offer 100% precision or foresight. For a guy like Dyson, who hasn't been on the injured list since April 2017, there is little in those "medicals" that differs from every other MLB pitcher.

From https://www.twincities.com/2019/07/31/twins-add-veteran-reliever-sam-dyson-at-deadline/ : “I’m never confident until you hear the final, ‘OK, we’re in agreement. The medicals have cleared.’ Because up until then, it’s still all potential,” Falvey said. Falvey heard those words Wednesday afternoon and shortly after, the Twins made it official

From https://theathletic.com/1110160/2019/08/01/no-blockbuster-deal-but-twins-happy-to-bolster-bullpen-with-sam-dyson/ (subscription required): At 2:50 p.m., the teams began to exchange medicals on the players involved and the deal was cleared five minutes before the deadline

The Twins made the Indians look like a second division team just after the AS game for 2 games and 7 innings. They haven’t improved that much and the Twins haven’t gotten worse.
