Front Page: Trade Deadline: What if the Twins Do Nothing?

Recommended Posts

Man I wonder what crazy offer they made to get Gallen.  He had a ton of control left.

Sounds like the DBacks sent SS prospect Jazz Chisolm...Not sure if there was more involved as well.

The Marlins traded him for a 21 year old SS (Jazz Chisholm) who is hitting .204 with 18 HRs at AA.

I think the Twins could've beat that.

Angry wouldn't be the right word for me.

Disappointed would be appropriate.

I have no idea what is happening on those telephone calls but I try to imagine being on the other end of the line.

If I'm the GM of the other team and the Twins are calling me about player X.

I'm going to ask for the top of the prospects. The Twins have Lewis, Kiriloff, Graterol and I'm going to ask for them. Maybe player X is Larnach value but I'm going to ask for higher because I know the Twins have better.

However, other teams that call me, may not have a Lewis or Kiriloff type talent to ask for. So the top of that pile is more in line with the value of player X and I can't hold out for more because there isn't more, besides seeing if the Twins or Astros cave with those really high end guys.

In a nutshell, weather I'm right or wrong, I can see a scenario where the Twins can be handicapped in this process because they have better players available to ask and hold out for, when other teams may not.

I wouldn't be angry because I can imagine a lot of things at play but yeah... Disappointed for sure. They need to support this team and we had a cannonball roll through the bullpen in July.

#Brewers trading Marcos Diplan to #MNTwins for cash considerations, sources tell The Athletic.

Diplan is in AA, has never appeared in AAA let alone MLB, and was DFA'd by the Brewers 2 days ago to make 40-man roster space for Jordan Lyles.

Edit: not to imply he's bad or anything, I don't really know -- just clarifying for anyone reading that he is not a major league addition here.

When Diplan was DFA'ed, I wondered if the Twins would make a play for him. Doesn't do anything for them now, though. More of a long-term investment (potentially).

With 5 BB/9, how far in the future are you thinking?

Yeah, but those 6 walks per 9 are pretty juicy about now.

This is getting kind of stupid. We could easily acquire Minor or Ray yet here the Twins FO sits on their butts. Obviously even when the window is open to go for a World Series the FO won’t do squat. To aquire Minor it would look like this: Minor for Thorpe, Gordon/Rooker, and Colina. You could probably make a similar deal for Robbie Ray. Again how smart is it to do nothing and expect our minor league prospects to star and be key cogs of a World Series run? Most top prospects won’t even come close to meeting their lofty ceiling, isn’t just smart to deal some top prospects if a World Series is possible?

He was a top 60 prospect and I'm guessing Miami isn't looking at his batting average. If Miami wanted a top 100 prospect SS in AA, the only thing the Twins could have offered was Royce Lewis.

Trade deadline day appearing bleaker by the minute. Very little Twins chatter.

Not reading anything about the Twins being involved on ANY of the guys mentioned.

I thought Romo was the appetizer, but maybe he's the main course? Twins going to rely on the Rochester shuttle and the young bullpen guys?

If there's no trade, it seems to be a sure thing that the Twins think Cody Allen will be on this roster sooner rather than later.

Yeah, I get what you are saying except they are completely different sides of the field.

In the end, Minnesota sports owners just will never go full bore to field a team.  Minneapolis/St Paul is not a "small" market but the area is not very sports conducsive.  Local revenues just cannot compete against other areas.  So, that is why we have the owners we have, it isn't just a coincidence.

I agree. You only have to look at the trade deadline moves two years ago: Buying, and then one week later selling, and then the team makes the playoffs. Uhm....

Having a strategy and sticking to it is a good thing ... don't worry about making the wrong choice so much. Who cares if the Pohlads have to spend a little more, it's not the end of the world. They should fight the fight to do what they think is right.

The changing priorities and strategies just makes the internal waters too murky to make good moves.

That's been my outlook on the Twins and sports in general for quite awhile. Plenty of other things to get angry about, and even those things, it's usually better to not to. I got kids, I don't want them learning that angry stuff from me.

Besides, I'd rather watch a baseball game the Twins lose than watch the Bachelor.

I don't get this part...

"it is important for Twins fans to stand by a team that has put themselves in this position."

If they opt to stand pat and not do anything to improve the obvious and glaring weaknesses of this team, why should we stand by this team and its front office? They are doing a disservice to everyone involved, including the 25 guys in that clubhouse, the coaches, and fans, if they don't make a move to improve this team.

That is such a cop out of a statement, really.

Well really a disservice to only 24 guys...since at least  one of the 25 players in the clubhouse will be traded or cut to make room for the superstar we are going to be trading for.
