Article: Deadline Deal: Twins Trade Brian Dozier to Dodgers

Recommended Posts

April 1 - thru July 30 narrative - Dozier is underperforming, overrated, disappointing, in fact he almost sucks.

July 31 narrative - they should have gotten so much more for an asset like Dozier.

That's not fair at all. I think this return is an accurate representation of Dozier's current value -- but that doesn't mean I endorse trading him for that return.

If the Dodgers and Twins could wind back the clock, do you think they both wish they just could've gotten the deal done a year and half ago?  Mightn't Dozier have pushed them over the top, back when he was hot?

Shoulda, woulda, coulda, over course.  Glad I didn't endure Doze hitting bombs elsewhere while Deleon was on the shelf.

The Dodgers almost certainly wish they had made the deal.

Considering that De Leon was the big piece in the rumored deal, the Twins should be quite satisfied they did not make that deal.

All things being equal.  I just wonder what the piece(s) were that held things up from the Twins end.  I wish there was some kind of Freedom of Information act, where you could go back and read the transcripts of the trade negotiations.  Was it someone like Bellinger, still an obvious no-brainer?  How about Verdugo, who still hasn't quite come around?

It is objectively funny. Too many sour grapes around here nowadays.

This **** is funny, man.

I'm not sour graping at all......I just don't find it funny. Some of what people thought they'd get for these guys, otoh.....

Actually, I think they had a good deadline, but I would have probably kept Dozier at that price. IF, however, there are clubhouse reasons for the move, then I'm more ok with it.

Overall, I'm mildly positive about the deadline. I wanted to see Dozier go but this return is pretty ugly, particularly considering they're taking on Forsythe in return.

But oh well, I don't think it matters in the end. Brian has absolutely collapsed since the ASG. It's a hope and prayer to think he suddenly gets so hot that an August deal or QO comes into play.

I'm more in the camp of "tear off the Band-Aid and move on".

I just Buxton and Gordon were part of that moving on this year......but neither looks like a MLB hitter right now. Hopefully next year.

Motter or Petit or Forsythe staying on the team?

given he takes the QO, I'm going with "no".

Even if Dozier takes the QO (big IF), the Twins could have easily afforded him with the coming salary purges.

It would have likely been money well spent as a rare dual role of 2019 placeholder, but with leadership qualities and a representation of continuity from among the survivors on the roster- who all might get ornery enough to get their act back together after this year's debacle.

Yep. This is the third consecutive season of Gordon looking strong and then collapsing in the second half. He's the anti-Buxton.

Hope that's not intended to say that Forsythe is the "Belisle of the Infield". :) :talk028:

Doesn't really matter. Dodger 2B production was fine last year, near the top of MLB, as they had the best regular season record. Then Forsythe had a good postseason at the plate as they reached game 7 of the World Series. There is no evidence to suggest they would have been better off with Dozier, so thereof there is no reason they should have offered more to get him.

Twins had three options:

1) Keep and Extend Dozier

2) Keep Dozier for the rest of the season offer him a QO at ~18M and hope he signs elsewhere and get the #75th pick overall (between 2nd and 3rd rd)

3)Trade him now and get what you can

4) Let Dozier play out the 2018 season. It's not over yet. Then decide. The value they got for him is less than the non-zero chance the Twins can still win the ALC.

I hope the change of scenery helps Mr. Dozier.

What I'm not looking forward to, though, is Motter or Petit at the plate.

Put Adrianza in and leave him there.

I wonder what Molitor is thinking at this point? If this is all a surprise to him, that says a lot too.

Also, supposedly Falvey and Levine addressed the team when they were in Boston. I wonder what was said at the time?

A hope and a prayer for a Dozier resurgence is far more realistic and logical thinking than taking on Forsythe in place of Dozier and expecting something good will come from it.
