This is why I would like to have Dozier hitting behind Buxton.  When Buck gets on, you want to throw fastballs to help keep Buxton from stealing.  But you definitely don't want to throw fastballs to Dozier.

Disagree.  Given Buxton's penchant for stealing, that would bring Dozier up frequently with first base open, taking the bat out of his hands at times.  Now when Buck gets to be a good enough on-base guy to put him at the top of the order, whooooo boy.  Then we'll have some options.  That's why Buck is the linchpin of the Twins lineup.  His presence changes everything.

That doesn't make sense though--we don't want Dozier hitting with a runner on second but not first, because he'll just get intentionally walked every time?  He's not Barry Bonds, and if opposing managers really want to give Mauer a lot of PA's with runners on first and second, I'm all for it.

Most teams know the IBB is a bad idea, so I don't agree at all.

That's my point--just because Buxton is on second doesn't mean managers will automatically IBB Dozier, which was the argument the other poster was making.  My view is that when Buxton gets on base, I want Dozier and Mauer batting behind him, not Castro and (today at least) Adrianza.

Agreed, but what I'm talking about is situational, and mostly relevant in the late innings.

Oops, my bad. And I agree

Ok, but I prefer that even more in late innings. If we're down 1 in the 8th, and Buxton gets a single/walk, I'm all good with that automatically turning into runners on first and second.  Baserunners are a good thing, particularly when you have your best average/OBP hitter at the plate.

Upon further review, I should have not come across with such an adamant 'disagree.'   Mea culpa, Cap'n.

Just wanted to point out that in certain situations- many of which occur late in ballgames- that stealing 2nd base can actually take the bat out of a guy's hands.  This happened the other night, I just can't remember the specifics behind it.  May have played a part in the Twins not running during what would otherwise be an obvious steal situation.

Oh, it's all good!  That's what makes game threads/baseball so much fun--there's so many different ways to approach the game, so its endlessly fun to debate what the best philosophy is.  And unlike other sports, there's actually room within the pace of play to have those conversations.

Is there a way to jump to the "newest" posts on this thread quickly? I often check game threads in the early innings - when I come back later, I have to page through (or manually input a page number into the URL field) in order to get to the most current comments.

Yes....instead of clicking "next" or "previous" page, just hit the little arrows on the right hand side of "next" and it jumps you to the last page.  Just figured this out myself

Click on the last page. The double "greater than" by the page numbers to the right.

I usually just hit the double arrow button to skip to the last page which has the most recent comments.
