Article: BREAKING: Twins Acquire Garcia From Braves

Recommended Posts

Depends on what you read. Jerry Crasnick is confirming the Braves are picking up the 4.6 million and $200k leaving the Twins owing $100k.

I think Crasnick/ESPN has that backwards. Heyman and Bowman say the Twins pay everything except $100k which was sent by the Braves:

In 2009 the Twins signed a 16 year old teenager for $800K. His name was Kepler. Right now I would be real pissed if we gave up Kepler for 10 games of Garcia

Kepler's $800k was worth more (inflation). Also he is a position player so we had more confidence in his health and projection. And Kepler dominated his age-19 season in Elizabethtown, on his way to an AFL appearance at age 20; Ynoa, not so much, so far this season.

Those of you who don't like this trade are CONSERVATIVE! You never know how a trade will work out. Sometimes you get burned. But don't you want to TRY to win? This will not be the only move. Let's go get Britton now baby!

I like the move as the rotation needs a body that can pitch 6-7 innings consistently. Not sure I'm a fan of moving a pitcher over from the National league to us as we have not had a lot of success in the past of doing that trying to contend. Thinking this is the end of the line for Colon. After he get's waxed by the Dodgers tonight he will likely retire.

What I'm really hoping for is two more bullpen pieces, I would like to see them grab two solid bullpen pitchers, move Duffy down to AAA to see if they can stretch him out, and make Duffy the fifth starter and move Mejia to the bullpen if they keep seeing 4 2/3 to 5 inning starts out of Meija. Meija seems as a lefty that he could pitch daily out of the bullpen if need be. I would like to swap the two guy's get Duffy back in the rotation and see Meija moved to a 6th 7th inning roll if they could.

The fact that we've had issues in the past with trading for NL pitchers should not color our decision making process at all. Should we pass on acquiring Kershaw or Scherzer because they're from the NL? Each player should be based on their merits/similar players, and league played in is not a significant enough differentiator.

It is very possible, I just saw it and noticed there are different reports out there.

I am very happy about this trade!

I am very worried that Hector "The Looming Spector" Santiago will sneak back in and spoil the party. What are we going to do about that guy? Seems like stashing him on the DL long-term would be a good idea. And heck, maybe we can outright the guy to AAA and just let someone else claim him. Anyone know what the Twins can do with Hector the ERA Collector?

I don't think Recker was on the Braves 40. They previously DFA'd him. He shouldn't need to be on the Twins. Baseball reference says his salary is 800,000. He seems to be a non-factor.

If Ynoa turns out to be Hu in 2017, it seems like a good deal. Hu is a AAA reliever this year with mediocre results. He has used at least two options. Ynoa could easily run out of options before he has established himself in the majors.

It seems like Braves could have asked for more. Maybe the Twins did take on most of the money.

edit- Recker is listed on 40. Maybe the Braves added him back after the DFA earlier in the season.

edit- He was DFA'd in May and last played in majors in April  http://www.ajc.com/sports/baseball/recker-dfa-braves-camargo-optioned-triple/t1Q6936m1e0iX8BYPqq26O/

Is the 40 listing correct?

I think the Twins are more than a little short of just Garcia to carry them to a playoff spot.  I wouldn't have an issue moving young guys like Ynoa as part of a package for somebody they could use beyond this year.  They've been entertaining but I don't think this team is good enough to be trading away prospects for short-term rentals.  Eduardo Escobar is batting clean-up tonight.  That's not good.

No the issue is that the Twins have a -66 run differential this season meaning teams have outscored them by 66 runs this season.  I don't know about you but when I go gambling, I like to go  in knowing what my chances are of actually winning.  The Twins need to be thinking the same way too. They have a 10.6% chance of making the playoffs as one of the two wildcard teams and a 2.6% chance of winning the division.

Want to know the other teams with a worse run differential than the Twins? Orioles (-71), Athletics (-72), Phils (-77), Reds (-80), Blue Jays  (-90), Giants  (-114), Padres (-132).  Not exactly good company.

I like the trade, seems like a low risk move.  If he performs well maybe they give him a 2 or 3 year deal.

The pitching staff isn't going to be fixed overnight, still plenty of improvement to go.  I do like what the FO has been doing with pitching moves this season overall.  Keep trying a little bit of everything and see if someone sticks.  I can't remember the last time I've seen as many 40 man moves in season as this year.

I just don't get this move. To me this is the FO telling the team "we don't believe in you". If you truly think they are contenders this season then you think they will be next season as well since virtually nobody is leaving this winter. In that case go get a pitcher that will help this year and next.

If you don't think they are legitimate contenders then sell, sell, sell. Bring in new talent so 2019 is a realistic target.

Either way a poor rental pitcher doesn't make sense.

Personally I think we just lost talent in this trade and that is always a bad thing.

Yes. The Braves selected Reckers contract just 3 days ago, and optioned him today:https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/baseball/news/braves-anthony-recker-sent-back-to-minors/

Thanks. I would think the Twins will DFA him.
But why???!! Just to lose Haley? I'd much rather have Haley then Recker, who is not only bad, but redundant.

I like the Garcia for Ynoa straight up. The Recker portion, not so much. That cost us Haley. Recker must have negative trade value- I mean the Braves tossed in $100k. So we probably had to take him off of the Braves in order to talk them down from different prospect they were set on, but we weren't willing to let go.
