A catcher can set up just behind the plate, too. Just can't block the plate. The runner can't run into the catcher if he is not blocking the plate. Castro sets up behind the plate, and Springer is probably nailed. This type of play is happening a lot, now. Setting up that far in front of the plate is not a good strategy, I think. Better to see the action in front of you, than be blind of what is happening behind you.

Yes, error was costly, but Berrios was terrible tonight. You go 2-0, 3-0 on almost every batter you are going to get results like this. He was lucky in the 1st inning,he wasn't throwing strikes then either.

 

Polanco is making Hughes suck, too? Quite a reach for the young fella.

 

Just for clarification... I do recognize that Berrios played a role. The Astros played a role. Hughes played a role. 

 

Top of the rotation starters find a way to survive the errors behind them. I get it... I truly do. I always have. 

 

However... I also recognize that it was an 8 run error. 

 

Also for clarification... I'm not calling for Polanco's head. I'd put him in the lineup again at SS but it was an 8 run error. 

 

Don't take this the wrong way but it's kind of insulting to assume that I don't know better.

Can we all agree that Santana needs to be traded for what promises to be nice package based on current market value?

 

He is 34 and not part of our next deep playoff run (I promise!)

Best to not let him start another game then. Don't want to further hurt his perceived value.

I agree. Of course we all know better. That is why it is silly to call it an 8 run error. It really is just the one run error (the batter's, or the runner fielder's choice out), maybe two if a double play could have been pulled off (which we all know can never be assumed, right?). Unearned runs allowed tell me a lot about a pitcher. It tells me they lost their cool and could not overcome the small bit of adversity. The high bouncer was just unlucky. Berrios is supposed to miss bats, too. Berrios should be able to rise up and cover a little error. That is his job.

Except Yoshi had enough class to not ask for a buyout. Hughes will either stick around gritting shelled for two years or just fade away. But still get paid.

I believe there have been a couple of MLB players, recently, who have retired before their contract was up. Adam Laroche for one. Could have stuck around and collected and opted not to.

Cuddyer...... (he did negotiate a buyout, I think, but he quit, too)

I can't blame Hughes for sticking around when he makes about $64k a day. But I do wish he would feel guilty about it, and give it back.

Although there's obviously little guarantee ownership will choose to reinvest.

You couldn't blame him for doing that, but then he would be the definition of a hack.
