Game Thread: Twins v Mariners, 6/14 @ 7:10pm CT

Recommended Posts

Today being Flag Day in the U.S., I had prepared a thoughtful 55,000-word game thread introductory essay on the complex relationships between flags, baseball, and modern society that I wanted everyone to read and discuss.

You woulda loved it, trust me.

However, this four game series with Seattle has gone completely off the rails. The high scoring is more reminiscent of football than baseball, with Seattle and Minnesota trading 14-3 and 20-7 victories. It's good that these are blowouts, and not close games of the 10-9 variety, and I will leave it at that.

Anyway, game thread reinforcements are needed. A new, fresher game thread arm is necessary. Therefore, I have decided to option the Flag Day essay back to the minors, and call up a new game thread intro to make its season debut tonight. Read on.

Pitchers: Sam Gaviglio (2-1, 2.79) vs Ervin Santana (8-3, 2.20).

Weather: baseball weather.

Game time: 7:10 CDT.

Game thread season debut of: Mailbag!

Let's go back through the game thread last night, and see what Twins Daily posters were saying.

At 2:39 PM, Vanimal46 writes: Today’s my last day before heading out on vacation

Mailbag replies: Did you get authorization from anyone us to leave? We can’t afford to have you out, so you will be required to continue posting either way.

At 3:41 PM, Most_of_These_Are_Fake_Handles writes: Twins need a win tonight!

Mailbag replies: Concur!

At 5:12 PM, MLBDraftExpert writes: I am outraged by the player the Twins selected in the 33rd round. Worst draft ever.

Clark Beeker replies: Hey now.

At 6:40 PM, QwertyBertyDick writes: Looking for some good downward plane from Gibby tonight.

Mailbag replies: And for the Twins batters to take some nice, level swings.

At 7:19 PM, Ball1Guy writes: Can’t stand to watch another pitch. Heading off to fold socks and play some Nickelback.

Mailbag replies: Have fun?

At 7:21 PM, SexxySassy77 writes: Seattle scores two runs before I even sit down! What gives!

Mailbag replies: Baseball is a funny game. Eddie Rosario might hit three home runs and Eduardo Escobar get 5 hits tonight. You just never know.

At 7:22 PM, NegativeGuy writes:: **** ** Gibson *** ** * ******

Mailbag replies: **** * U 2 *** *** ahem Joshua Tree tour comes Sept 8th

At 7:22, PM, RegularPoster writes: Is Gibson cooked, or am I losing my mind?

Moderator replies: Yes.

At 7:23 PM, RubeChatRefugee writes: luuulllllllllllllzzzzzz

Mailbag replies: lol

At 7:49 PM, Ball1Guy writes: ROSARIO!

Mailbag replies: It gets better! He hits thr— hey, welcome back I thought you were folding socks.

At 8:12 PM, emansdrawkcab writes: There’s a fight at the bat rack. (during the seven run 3rd inning)

Mailbag replies: POTN! Although Riverbrian awarded that to a later post, so this might be contested. (Other honorable mentions: offensive indifference, funny jersey, bad to the bone, alternative strategy…. you all know who you are, or not :)

At 9:51 PM, someone writes something unrelated to baseball

Someone replies obligatorily

At 10:12 PM, Riverbrian posted an unspeakable image captured in the final moments of an earlier Seattle Minnesota matchup.

The Game Threaders reply: why why

Play Ball!

Blair is now the kicker in Seattle......so nope! The new guy, who wasn't all that good missed another one though.

How weird is that. Watch him kick a game winning FG against us in the playoffs next year. Lol

Pitchers: Sam Gaviglio (2-1, 2.79)

Twins batters need to pound this 27-year old rookie. I took a look at his b-r.com minor league page, and nothing about him says he should even be in the majors, much less sporting a gaudy ERA even in Small Sample Size. He's given up 14 runs in his 29 innings, but 5 were unearned, which seems like a lot. His Fielding Independent Pitching number is 5.42, more in line with his 4'ish minor league ERAs over the years. We should pound him, I tell you.

Which means, of course, our boys will make him look like Cy Young tonight.

So you're saying he's better than Gibson....

Hey! I owned that horse back in my cowboy days! Had a helluva time putting a saddle on him... At least I think it was a him. Could've ben hur. Anyway, the saddle kept sliding off whenever we hit a gallop. So I got this clever idea to use him to pull a wagon. But his back wasn't long enough to hold up the harness so that went nowhere. Which just goes to prove that it's never wise to hitch your wagon to a half-assed idea.

If you've grown as tired of Dick and Bert as me, tune in to our commercial-free broadcast today by going here and clicking the media player at the bottom of the page.

Thursday at noon we'll be live from Target Field with Ted Schwerzler (@tlschwerz) to talk about Derek Falvey's first draft with the Twins and the home buying process, as it's National Homeownership Month. We'll give you some tips on how to find the perfect home and save money on the purchase.

Today we'll talk about robo-investment managers that can help you save for retirement, living in a tent or van over the summer, and a bit of Twins baseball all while drinking whiskey margaritas and nibbling on 50-cent wings at Joe Senser's Sports Theater in Bloomington. Come on down if you're bored/hungry/thirsty and tell them **** Dick and Bert sent ya (name subject to change).
