Yeah, like I have one of those things laying around the house.

Seriously, though... I don't have a radio in the house.

Back when I was a kid, they had this nifty newfangled toy called a transistor radio. And it even came with an earpiece. Not unlike the size and shape of today's phones!

Thanks! That is useful to know as well. Not currently on that map, so presently i am out of luck. I bet i could figure out a solution in this modern age if i weren't so lazy. But i will content myself with after the fact details.

I thought it funny that i clicked on the bigger map link expecting to get a map covering a larger area. But no. It was a bigger image of the same map.

Had one too, had a sweet antenna with a red plastic ball on top of the antenna, that would lock on the side of the radio....memories!!!!

Had a cool leather case that felt so good when held.

I have 7-8 radios of various kinds, but sadly that first one is gone.

I hate the idea of Joe "GIDP" Mauer batting cleanup.  With the weak hitting he is always going to be in the upper echelon of gidp and that is not good for run production.  He should be at the top or the bottom of the lineup, not the middle.

Against a lefty!

I admit to being surprised.

I generally don't like it either.  But I guess we could think about the logic of the ideal game flow:

1) Dozier hit or walk

2) Dozier maybe steals. Grossman hit or walk.

3) Buxton Drives run(s) in.

4) Buxton steals.  Joe drives him in or gets him over.

5) Sano sac fly or big fly

6-9) Meh against lefty

Repeat.

Maybe it's a weird "wake up, Mauer" call to get him going or he will be moved down.....

I don't like Castro hitting behind Sano for lack of protection.

I also don't like talking about baseball in the game thread.

Let's get our act together, people.

It's game one, it usually starts out like this IIRC.

off (on?) topic, it's national find a rainbow day. good luck with that everyone!

So...is Molitor still mad about the George Brett pine tar HR reversal? Or did he pick names out of a hat for a different reason? Either way, baseball! Real, live, actual baseball.

Yeah, I'm surprised he's there against a lefty. Against a righty, I can see the logic.

Oh well, it'll be interesting to watch.

Let me see, extra pitcher, Park, platoon, hmm...not enough guts to bench Mauer against a lefty even on opening day?

That would have been a gutsy move and wouldn't have required investing $$$.

Edit: yeah, I'm jumping the gun. the FO probably didn't know they were going to face a lefty out on opening day. But, somehow, I think a little more flexibility would have been nice.

and who could forget opening day 1970? twins 12, white sox 0. brant alyea 4-for-4, 2 hr and 7 rbi with a complete-game shutout by jim perry.

I've never heard of Brant Alyea until today, he had a pretty solid 1970 though. .299/.366/.531 with 16 HR in 94 games. I have been looking for a sneaky throwback jersey....
