Ret. Vice Adm. Bob Harward has turned down President Donald Trump's offer to be national security adviser, sources told CNN Thursday.

A friend of Harward's said he was reluctant to take the job because the White House seems so chaotic. Harward called the offer a "s*** sandwich," the friend said.

While I'm sure we all chuckle about the sandwich line....the problem here is that they'll fill the position with someone who actually likes the sandwich.

We need competent, respectable people to wade into this nonsense in some blind hope they can keep it anchored.  So I take this as a bad thing and I worry who will accept the position.

I am not sure anything can be said anymore. Trump and his cronies are wackos, today was a train wreck beyond proportions... Trumps presser and all of that crap. No one in their right mind would want to join this circus (Harward), there is too much on the line in many phases for a person to jump on board. Self preservation, reputation and future prospects... honor and pride.

I have sort of disassociated myself from reality and when I watch or read the stuff about this guy and his staff, I find it humorous, although in a very grim way. Really, you can't make this stuff up.

I would like to give Trump a little more rope to hang himself. I feel like Trump and his peeps are playing a game of Jenga by 5 year olds. The game is not going to last long, and when the blocks fall, that is when the people with their heads on straight will organize and force a change in this dipstick chaos and ineptitude.

There is too much at risk, and I feel like this will happen.

Unfortunately, these kind of protests will draw out the people who screw things up, but hopefully, the educated, truthful and sincere voices will reach the people that are not hypnotized by the Trump sham and the day can be won.

When I read stuff on this thread or threads like it, I understand that people have many, many different ideologies, but fundamentally share the same core ethics of humanity and goodness. This could be an important time in our history to unite as one, under a different idealism and have the want and desire to compromise.

I really do think this can happen and I hope you are ALL IN on this thing. What we are witnessing is nonsense and needs to be corrected for the sake of all of us.

I have a 5 year-old and a 4 year-old in my house. At least when the Jenga blocks fall, they start building with them and do something creative and productive. They don't blame someone else for the blocks falling.

Whaaaaat.

That's not reasonable at all.

She's a White House correspondent for a radio network. Her blackness doesn't mean she knows all other black people.

I didn't meant to imply otherwise.

I thought it was interesting how Trump described why his meeting with Sen. Cummings fell through. He said Schumer, the D cacus leader, put a stop to it. Going public like this could be construed as a political maneuver to build inroads with members of the Senate D caucus- black ones in this case. But yes, his delivery was completely tactless and ignorant so now that's the story instead.

Except Schumer did nothing of the sort.

“I have no idea why President Trump would make up a story about me like he did today. Of course, Sen. Schumer never told me to skip a meeting with the President,” Cummings wrote Thursday.

Is that a fact?

according to Cummings himself, unless we want to believe the habitual liar Trump.

“I have no idea why President Trump would make up a story about me like he did today. Of course, Sen. Schumer never told me to skip a meeting with the President,” Cummings wrote Thursday.

In fact, the liar actually said:.“But he probably was told by [senate Minority Leader Chuck] Schumer or somebody like that … he was probably told don’t meet with Trump. It’s bad politics.”

See, he didn't actually have any sound info saying it was Schumer.

That's Trump just grasping at straws trying to push blame as usual.

Interesting. Well maybe Trump just snubbed him. I say "maybe" only because Cummings could be playing politics too.

Giving Trump bizzarely the benefit of the doubt at this stage is the whole problem at this stage!

If Trump doesn't want to meet with Cummings or the CBC why would he say in front of the cameras to someone whose job has nothing to do with these things, that he wants to arrange a meeting?

The whole thing is bizarre, I'm not convinced the truth is as simple as what Cummings says.

He didn't even know what the CBC until it was explained to him (reporter was nice, letting the idiot off the hook by explaining what CBC is) and then he blamed democrats for him not even bothering to make sure he met with them before (I doubt it ever occurred to him).  But good thing there was a black reporter for him to ask her to set up a meeting between 45 and the CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS.

If you're looking for the truth, it probably isn't coming out of the mouths of the people in 45s administration.

Even Fox is finally calling him on things.  NOW what will he do?

Fox News anchor Shepard Smith on Thursday criticized President Trump for bashing reporters gathered at a lengthy Thursday press conference, calling on him to answer legitimate questions from news outlets.

"(Trump) keeps repeating ridiculous throwaway lines that are not true at all and sort of avoiding this issue of Russia as if we're some kind of fools for asking the question. Really?" Smith said. "Your opposition was hacked and the Russians were responsible for it and your people were on the phone with Russia on the same day it was happening and we're fools for asking the questions?"

Trump was repeatedly asked by reporters from different publications about reported conversations between his campaign aides and Russian officials. Trump blasted such stories as "fake news" and berated journalists.

"Russia is fake news. Russia - this is fake news put out by the media," he said at one point.

Trump maintained that he is not aware that any of his campaign aides had any improper communications with Russian officials.

"No sir," Smith continued. "We are not fools for asking this question, and we demand to know the answer to this question. You owe this to the American people. Your supporters will support you either way. If your people were on the phone, what were they saying? We have a right to know, we absolutely do and that you call us fake news and put us down like children for asking these questions on behalf of the American people is inconsequential. The people deserve an answer to this question at very least."

Smith also defended CNN reporter Jim Acosta, who pressed Trump for answers on several points. Acosta and Trump have frequently sparred at past press conferences. Thursday Trump said he was upgrading CNN from "fake news" to "very fake news."

Smith defended Acosta during the segment Thursday, calling him "an accomplished reporter, a guy I've never met, but a good reporter."

She also said she'd welcome the opportunity to cover the meeting, but setting it up- that's a bridge too far!

And if she did it? "There they go again. The media, making the news instead of simply reporting it."

He might as well have asked her if she had stopped beating her husband. A no-win response lobbed her direction.

How are Democrats laying the groundwork to show the public they can be trusted again, or to show how spineless and pathetic the Republicans are?

Obama is apparently doing a lot of behind the scenes work, in meantime the Dems are standing up to every dumb thing Trump does.

But they are (smartly I might add) letting Trump hang himself with all of this ridiculousness.

I had dinner the other night with a member of parliament here in the U.K. (House of lords) they said they thought trump would be out of the White House within the next 90 days one way or another. Resign, Impeachment..or ..other.

And this was prior to whatever the hell that insane press conference was yesterday.

I hope that wasn't the case. I personally didn't get that impression.

It stood out a mile to me, as having a racial origin to the request.

Suppose a reporter had asked, will you be meeting with the Congressional Coal Caucus, just to pick one at random. No chance he'd ask the reporter to set something up.

For some reason, he assumed this reporter was in tight with the CBC. I wonder what could cause him to expect that.

Yeah that is the general consensus.

Also how he told the Jewish reporter to sit down and that he (trump) was "literally the least anti Semitic person in the world" was the height of ridiculous as well. its so annoying how he HAS to be the "best" at everything, like being the "least" racist person ever.

Not to mention the majority of people who have to repeatedly say "I'm not racist" are usually some of the most racist. Pretty sure even david Duke claims he is personally not racist.

Ack! Don't do that to one of my favorite cartoon characters! Waaaaa! You've ruined it! <sobs uncontrollably>

Funny I was also upset that Johnny Quest and company would be tainted by an association with this administration.  No one better mess with Bullwinkle, Scooby, or Underdog.  Scrappy - feel free to ruin him.

The good news is, the adventures Race and Jade used to take part in would bring Steve Bannon to a quick cardiac arrest.

I thought so too. But I didn't get the impression that he was shifting blame to "you guys" for not setting up the meeting as Dave said.

Glad to hear it. I am against the Democrats having anything to do with impeachment, and if Trump resigns he will blame it on the Democrats and media, so they will need a practical response.

On the other hand, the Democrats just elected their senate and house minority leaders from New York and San Francisco, respectively. How dare Republicans accuse Democrats of being coastal elites, right?

Ugh. Nothing about this is good. Rant over, for now.

When it comes to dealing with people of other races, I don't think we can give the benefit of the doubt to a guy who yelled and pointed "THERE'S MY AFRICAN AMERICAN" at a rally.

It's so painfully obvious Trump doesn't have the slightest clue how to interact with people of color, nor does he care to try. I'm not sure my 90 year old, conservative, rural grandmother (rest in peace) would have said that because COME ON, NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND SAYS THAT.

He's such an awful human being. I can't believe this country elected him president.

And hell, my oldest and closest friend died in Iraq and I never thought Bush was a bad person for it. I thought he was naive and misguided but I never thought he was an evil man.

Trump, though, he's just an awful person. I don't fully understand why people can't see it or, if they do, why they accept it.

nope, he was only shifting the blame of not having yet met with he CBC to the democrats. The media and democrats responsible for everything bad. He is the best at everything. Just like the north korean dictator

I keep thinking back to how Democrats ran on health care reform for an entire generation, as their top issue, and then when they get to power in 2009 they have nothing ready, no votes lined up, and end up settling for the far right-wing Heritage Center health care reform plan.

what does THAT have to do with what POTUS is doing now? Deflect, deflect, deflect.

trying to figure out how electing people from New York and San Fran is such a bad thing, but okay.

Also cant figure out why Dems shouldnt be involved in getting that embarrassment out of office as soon as possible. Who cares who Trump blames if it happens? He is blaming the media and dems for everything anyway, better he does it as the former President than sitting president.

I think Pelosi was a huge mistake. Everyday Americans consider her an establishment politician that is paid by non profits and jobless people. Just the way it is. Schumer is at least some new blood and a new face. The elite image is what the gop has been effectively marketing to white America.
