Seth, don't you think that's part of the bigger problem here, that even if they did call up Walker or Palka that they would only get in about 7-8 AB's? Why is that? Honestly, at this point what do they need to continue to find out about Grossman that they couldn't play one of the other two with much more regularity? Is that not what they should be doing?

Yes. Bingo.  Absolutely.  Exactly.  Head of nail meet hammer.  Exactimundo.  Precisely.  Concur.

I did find Matt Fox, who was added to the roster September 3, 2010 and DFA'd two days later, although that was obviously a year of contention.  Interestingly, Fox was DFA'd to call up Ben Revere.  Maybe Schafer will be DFA'd to call up Revere comparable Zach Granite?  (Although Chattanooga tentatively has a playoff berth.)

2008, Mike Lamb DFA'd 8/25, again another contending season, though.

Going back to 1991 in the FOX Sports transactions page, Fox and Lamb (jokes, please!) appear to be the only in-season Twins DFA's of a player on the MLB roster after August 1st each year.  (A couple more guys were DFA'd from the minor leagues, like RA Dickey in 2009. I also obviously didn't count Albers' unusual DFA before his option a couple weeks ago.)

Schafer is in the lineup tonight, so we're already halfway to the 7-8 at bats available to a Palka over the next 2 weeks...

Slides right into CF like a glove. Makes me sick.

Well this just can't be true. I was told that it was nothing to worry about because he was only here as insurance off the bench.

I think how it works is that we have to break him to get the insurance to pay out. Or something like that.

I agree with all of that completely, but isn't 1000 career pro games enough to evaluate what you've seen from his historically versus what you've seen from him in person?

Minor league scouting reports were that he wasn't fast enough to be a CF but could adequately handle the position in a pinch.  There was no other mention of him being terrible as a corner fielder, only that he lacked the power numbers.  So scouting reports say one thing about his fielding,  Is the 64 games this year a regression? I do not know.

I refuse to read 5 pages about this.  But I have to ask....

Anyone asked around to see what Juan Castro or Lew Ford are up to these days?  Can Frankie Rodriguez still hum a fastball up there?

At this point I'll take a nostalgia team.  At least then I can laugh without feeling bad about myself as a Twins fan.

Caring about the win loss records of the affiliates over the development of future MLB players is part of how they became the worst organization in baseball in the first place.

How it will affect Rochester's win loss record should not even be a consideration when making a move.
Not only that, but Rochester is too far out to have a realistic shot at a wild card spot.

Why is that so obviously true?  Is being in a playoff race playing against has-beens and probably won't-bes all that valuable, compared to playing against major leaguers who are fighting for the playoffs?  I would think so.  Is batting against the Cleveland rotation better for development than batting against an International League rotation?  Hmmm...probably.

I don't see how wanting the best players on the major league team makes me a suspect Twins fan.  Interesting thought. I will check my loyalty oath and see if cheering for Rochester is the highest priority.***

They're no longer trying to make moves for the future at the moment. Nor are they even rewarding players who deserve a call-up. This is a .260 AAA hitter with no power, or anything of value to provide for an MLB club.

Embarrassing

Apt choice of words ("pathetic"works here, too...)

We are talking a lot of money here. Some guys (like Park in Rochester) are making major league money playing AAA ball. All players dram of that first major league paycheck, that pretty much is what you made for playing in the minors for the summer, unless you are on the 40-man roster, or unless you are a six year minor league veteran playing AAA ball.

And let's plug him into the lineup and watch him go 5-5 or something (wait, he went 0-2 and got pinch-hit...yes!) and be declared the second coming of Robbie Grossman.

8 games is make or break. Like you say, people are free to comment on the totally illogical.

Lew Ford is playing at the Atlantic League for the Long Island Ducks the past two seasons, and in Mexico in the winter.

Frankie Rodriguez retired in 2001 :)

Regarding Schafer. I do love his quotes in the article on the Twins page. Not only was he in Rochester playing with a full outfield, he got a ridiculous number of at bats.

I'm glad he is here to "contribute to some winning baseball here."

He clearly has the right approach, but talking about how he's Joe Experienced might rub the young guys the wrong way.  He needs to actually do what he says he is there to do -- actions speak louder than words.

If he continues to hit .000 his messaging won't be around long in any case.

And Logan Schafer is starting in CF again.

At least he'll already be close to the 7 or 8 AB's that Seth predicted he'd get over the next week or so...

*sigh*

First Teddy, now this again.  You want to kick my dog while you're at it?  Whomever "you" is!
