I'm wondering how many games in a row Bert is gonna say something like: 'in today's game throwing 7 innings is like pitching a complete game in the old days'. He did it on the Fox Saturday broadcast, he did it Sunday and both games yesterday.

How about Gladdenisms, for us radio listeners?

 

I'll suggest "jamshot" (or "jam shot" or "jam-shot" -- style handbooks differ on the written representation of the term). Gladden has the remarkable ability to describe a wide variety of baseball hits, of different speeds, trajectories, distances, and directions, with the same term "jamshot". It's quite elegant in its simplicity, really.

It actually sounds a little dirty when Gladden says it too. I think it's because he uses the term so often, it doesn't really accurately describe the play, so one's imagination is left to wander...

 

Maybe what's really happening is that instead of taking jello-shots, he's slurping down jam-shots instead. That would explain much of his inane blathering during the game.

Interesting idea. My wife is out of town. Maybe I'll experiment with this and see if I can get jam-shots to work.

 

If I'm even less coherent than normal tonight, that'll be why.

Just remember, you have to exclaim "jam-shot!" prior to taking each one.

In today's game, if you pitch seven innings a start, you win Cy Young awards, like Johan Santana

 

He's about to throw his 100th pitch. I hope he doesn't blow up

 

He left it up...but on the replay it was not a bad pitch, the hitter just dropped the head of the bat and got good wood on it

 

Too many pitches this inning

 

He really stays back good, gets to that balance point, and then explodes toward home plate
