with Milone, that plan is either a trade this year (highly unlikely) or a non-tender for the next GM.

"highly unlikely"

Why?  I mean for a team looking to gamble on a low risk left handed starter whose arbitration eligible the next two years and not locked into a big contract.

Because those same teams had a chance to take him for nothing a few weeks ago when we DFA'd him.

Milone just isn't very good.

Generally agreed, but it was a few months ago.  Milone is owed less than half of his already fairly modest salary as compared to when we waived him in early May.  I could see a team claiming him now after passing on him earlier, particularly once we get to August.

If someone will give up something for Milone, I'm pretty much ready to get the deal done. Tommy could have been had for free a two months ago when he got DFAd.  I don't see how it is that someone will suddenly give up something of value to acquire his services... If they do, I'll be very happy to eat some crow here... I just don't see it happening.

Lavelle was on with Barriero this afternoon and said he expected a Kintzler and/or Abad trade as soon as tonight

I'd send both of these guys packing. Would make happy to see those reclamation projects flipped instead of being held on to. Plus, we have guys in Chargois and Melotakis who really need to just get some MLB innings as well as a guy in Hildenberger who is deserving of a promotion.

Did Nolasco create a teeny-tiny glimmer of a market with his start last night? Eight shutout innings, plus a standard-issue lead-off homer?

Think he'll need one or two more solid outings to generate much desire.  He will easily clear waivers due to his contract.  If not, thank you to whoever claims him.  I suspect if the Twins are able to move him, they will eat at least half of the remaining salary (which they would gladly do.)

With Norris and Lucroy in the market, will there be an offer for Suzuki?

The demand for pitching will generate offers on Kintzler, Abad and Santana. They should take the best return offered on those three. I am not as sure the demand at catcher will generate an offer for Suzuki.

It depends what the asking price is.

Those guys are better, no doubt, but it also means they have a higher price. Someone might find Suzuki to be a better value.

Herrmann and Butera had value, and that means almost any catcher has value.

Nobody is picking up that option at that price, so trade him for what you can get, and bring him back next year if need be.

#Twins are shopping Ricky Nolasco, Tommy Milone and Fernando Abad at deadline. No big return hauls there.

Nolascos start yesterday couldn't have gone better. Hopefully someone will bite.

I would be absolutely thrilled if the Twins unloaded Nolasco and Milone.  That would be AWESOME!  If they do this and hang onto Santana that would be acceptable.  Ridding ourselves of Nolasco and Milone would mean Berrios would get a callup for sure and would likely finish the season in the majors.   The next logical move would be to send May down to AAA to stretch him out.  In the meantime they could callup Dean and or Wheeler to fill the void.  The next big question is Duffey.

Santana

Gibson

Duffey

Berrios

May, Dean, Wheeler, Mejia

I still feel there is a NL team out there that may bite on Nolasco. I disagree that Milone doesn't have at least a slight possibility of being traded, though it probably won't be until August gets here. Yes he was passed over on waivers earlier in the year, but he's pitched better since his recall, as he did last year. Thereturn would probably be very small, but he's experiencdd, left handed and breathing. He could probably help someone on the back end.

Hope Abad and Kinzler both go. But I'm still in favor of keeping Santana for next season. Or at least, until the off season and our new GM takes a look at the team and market and makes a decision otherwise. (Same with Dozier)

Doc,

I don't mean to criticize. But I hear this one a lot for Nolasco. Some NL team could take him. Isn't the reality that any pitcher that goes from AL to NL will benefit?

The numbers show he was the worst in the league by ERA over the last two and a half years. So any other pitcher moving to the NL will be better than Ricky.

Lucroy to the Tribe. That is, if he approves. It looks like not an awesome return if the main listed prospect is about  the number 9 in the Indian minor league rankings      Suzuki is probably going to stay unless Antony decides Norris might come cheap.based on the Lucroy trade

well, they got four players in that deal, so I'm guessing there's some upside there. Sets the market on Suzuki a bit. Probably won't see a top 100 (though for some reason I thought one of those guys was one), but perhaps a couple higher ceiling A ball guys. Not necessarily a bad get.

I'm with you Tobi, I don't buy the "get an NL team to bite." yeah, the NL can drop your ERA by a half a run, which might make Nolasco a bit more serviceable in the NL, but hardly one worth giving up a lot. If the Twins got something for him, or quite frankly just managed to get rid of the contract for nothing, I would be pretty happy.

McCann and Norris are still in the supply with Suzuki. I don't know if the demand is large enough.

Suzuki's framing and throwing probably make him more difficult to deal to a team looking for a number 1 catcher. The offensive numbers are nice and over three years above average relative to catchers.

I would take the best offer which might be a player closer to 500 than 100.

Not being critical at all. And you're right that anyone moving to the NL has an easier time and would see their numbers lower. Nolasco, on even a little bit, can eat some innings and help fill someone's last spot or two. I suggest the NL as being logical since the teams there are more familiar with Nolasco, and he's spent his entire career there other than the Twins. It seems a natural fit to me for someone.

Lucroy exercised his no trade. Suzuki could be a much cheaper fall back option

That is wild. Can't remember every hearing of that happen before.

And here I was thinking now that Lucroy was off the market, Suzuki would be able to be moved.

I suppose that Suzuki to the Indians would work.
