Ignoring the buzzkill...

Anyways, I remember taking a family vacation to Washington DC. God it had to have been 8-10 years ago now back when Bush was in the office. There's certainly a lot to see in that city? District? I think the coolest place I saw was going to the top of the Washington Monument and overlooking the Lincoln Memorial.

I couldn't imagine how it looked when Martin Luther King was giving his "I Have a Dream Speech" where it was filled to the brim with people.

Or when Forrest Gump gave his speech and the mic cut out.  Man, chills.

The news about Colabello disappoints me. I really thought he was a stand-up guy too.

As for his statement, well, Lance Armstrong denied cheating and still lied after being caught.

We've heard it all before.

And, Twins fans really cannot throw stones, because our very own Ervin Santana missed 80 games last year for, yep, you guessed it, a PED suspension. Oddly enough, Mr. Santana also had no idea how he wound up with PED's in his system.

It's somewhat of a Canadian anthem.

Also glad to see your spelling coming along    :)

Good grief, that band is what would happen if Bob Dylan and Neil Young were somehow magically fused.

Well if outing yourself as a Stephen Harper fan wasn't enough to get my dander up, now you mock one of my favourite bands of all time.

You sir are off my Christmas card list and if we meet up at the Pub Crawl this year, you're buying now.

I never claimed I was a Harper fan. Politicians, by their very nature, are power mad tyrants who know how to buy the votes, I mean, gull the masses into voting them into office.

As for buying, only if I get to choose the beer or whiskey. I'm not about to buy some Canadia equivalent of the "Champagne of Bottled Beers." It's stout or nothing!! (okay, okay, if you run across a decent Bock, I might let it slide.)

Ok, we're friends again.

How about a really hoppy IPA?

Stout and Bock work though.  :)

Well, he's played it, and if I remember right, made a catch.  Sorry, but I have to think he'd be better than Sano out there.  Mauer has an arm too.  I know it's out of position, but I tend to think Sano is better than Nunez or escobar defensively at 3rd.  Mauer is better than Sano in RF... and Park is better than Mauer at 1B.

I'm reasonably certain, barring breaking leprosy news, that both Miguel Sano and Joe Mauer have two arms.

Which made it...the 50's?

Sometimes people would drive down to the Cities and would let us know what was going on in the outside world (although generally people would only make that trip for the state hockey tournament).

Cable came around 1980 and then we were only about ten years behind.  Unless you lived in the country - then there was no cable access unless you built a really big antenna or a massive satalite dish.  Sometimes we would get reception for a Thunder Bay station.  It would show the World of Disney on Saturdays, so those were special weekends.  I also vaguely remember a Canadian Captain Kangaroo type character called the Gentle Giant  - which I suspect would come off kind of creepy if I saw the show now.

1. Simply making the Major Leagues is the difference between a salary below Poverty to a salary over 500 Grand a year.

2. There is enormous competition for these MLB jobs that can be decided by the competitive advantage provided by PED's.

3. Who can blame anyone for being tempted to improve your odds at making the big leagues. Not only is making the major leagues a rare accomplishment and an incredible dream to be close to capturing... tha aside... serious crimes have been committed in other walks of life for much less money.

4. I wouldn't blame Colabello or anyone for succumbing to the temptation for the reasons listed above.

5. However... It's easy to hate the action when you think of those who don't make the majors or are beaten out of a major league job by someone who took PED's.

6. Colabello used to be the inspirational story of the guy who beat all odds to play in the majors.

7. That story is now gone and life is a little sadder today.

Not looking to start something here, but if I'm understanding your first 4 points correctly, you have no problem with cheating so long as it's done in the pursuit of a dream with sizable financial upside.  So for example, you are all good with someone who's dream is to be President stuffing the ballot box in order to ensure election.

I've got to disagree here Brian. I highly doubt he took anything intentionally. He's not that kind of a guy, and would quit before cheating. He beat all odds to get to where he is. I hope it gets figured out just how this got into his system.

Except that every team has a training staff that can be called year-round, and asked questions about any kind of supplement.  If he truly isn't trying to cheat, why wouldn't he call and say someone just gave me supplement X, is that ok for me to take?  He's either lying about not knowing how it got in his system, or reckless to the point of stupidity.

Not trying to start anything either. But one is an entertainment avenue, and the other is a way of life avenue for the citizens of the Country. Big difference, if you ask me.

Yeah, like, there's a chance that it's a Chris Davis scenario, but I just don't know. At his age? I'm buying the cheating bit. For now.

I completely agree that there is a big difference in importance and impact, but it doesn't change the reality of what one is doing.  Either it's cheating or it's not.  Just because it's only a dollar doesn't make taking a candy bar from Target without paying not stealing.

Enjoy the game thread all. Mrs Chief is dragging me off to some Podunk dust bowl in Nevada...Las Vegas or some such.

Borrrrrrring. Prolly don't even have sompkace to watch a ball game.

BTW, living in Tucson has given me a chance to pick up some Spanish. "Las Vegas" is Spanish for "the Vegas." Cool, huh?

Life is tough sometimes. You need to compartmentalize some things. Baseball to me is fun, and it is sad when heroes fall because they skirted the rules, if they thirst for money and riches it really has no baring on our society for the most part.

But when politicians are making deals to please the special interests and big industries, and not working for the people of this country's overall good, it is the biggest scam that ever existed. We deserve better than this bull**** and I am not sure we can stop it.

It's apples and oranges really.
