1. Simply making the Major Leagues is the difference between a salary below Poverty to a salary over 500 Grand a year.

2. There is enormous competition for these MLB jobs that can be decided by the competitive advantage provided by PED's.

3. Who can blame anyone for being tempted to improve your odds at making the big leagues. Not only is making the major leagues a rare accomplishment and an incredible dream to be close to capturing... tha aside... serious crimes have been committed in other walks of life for much less money.

4. I wouldn't blame Colabello or anyone for succumbing to the temptation for the reasons listed above.

5. However... It's easy to hate the action when you think of those who don't make the majors or are beaten out of a major league job by someone who took PED's.

6. Colabello used to be the inspirational story of the guy who beat all odds to play in the majors.

7. That story is now gone and life is a little sadder today.

Number 5 is why the players' union should be 100% behind any and all efforts to eliminate the use of PED's. The small minority of cheaters in effect steal jobs and salary from the vast majority of their members.

I also just tuned in. It's a beautiful spring evening. The lawn looks good. In April! :) Which means it needed to be mowed. In April!

Geez, I'd just put one of the Spinettes to work if I were you. Though ... maybe you're feeling like going over the lawn again to get Gibson off your mind.

This game thread started with such promise.

Communism... The three Joe M's... Ash's Birthday... Death knocking at the Door... Bryce Harper the Communist. Park the Communist Fighter...

and just look at it all now... Reduced to talking about Baseball.

I thought he was saying he understood why a young, dumb person would fall for that temptation. I didn't notice so much as a hint that it was okay.

Steroids are banned to protect the players who use them as much as protect the players who don't use them.

I agree.   I took it more as "understanding" as opposed to "agreement".   With the amount of money on the line, especially when several big seasons can net you a 100 million dollar (think about that!) contract, I'm amazed cheating isn't more rampant.   That is an awfully big carrot to dangle in front of a guy who might just need a little more oomph to hit 30 jacks or 100 RBIs.

Except that every team has a training staff that can be called year-round, and asked questions about any kind of supplement.  If he truly isn't trying to cheat, why wouldn't he call and say someone just gave me supplement X, is that ok for me to take?  He's either lying about not knowing how it got in his system, or reckless to the point of stupidity.

Or someone surreptitiously spiked his orange juice to get him off the roster. Not saying, just saying.

I'd agree, other than the start of point 4 is "I wouldn't blame Colabello or anyone...".  Just my opinion, obviously, but if I don't blame someone, then I don't think they did anything wrong, vis a vis debating the morality of someone's action(s).

Would you blame me if I shot Donald Trump?
