I found this, It goes like this:

Team B @ Team A

Team C @ Winner of A/B

Angels would have first selection, followed by Astro's, then Twins.

Basically it would be Twins @ Astro's then Angels @ Winner of Twins or Astro's.

I actually found this helpful breakdown on ESPN (I know, I was surprised to find it there too).

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/13792891/explaining-al-west-wild-card-tiebreaker-scenarios

As it turns out, it would be exactly as you described above, so I was wrong in my earlier post <hangs head in shame>

I have to say that MLB's solution to a 3-way tie WC situation is absurd, and it is the result of the absurdity of having a second wild card. I don't hate it, I just think it's nutty.

162 games ... comes down to playing 163 and 164, then a one-game playoff????? BS.

THIS THIS THIS, except I do hate it.

The Twins backs are up against the wall yet again. Even if they "win out" they may not win the Wild Card, because

1) The Angels are playing the Rangers who just clinched, and everyone knows what happens to teams that just clinched: they let down mentally, they play a few reserves, they get ready for games that really matter.

2) Houston plays the Diamonbacks (nuff said?).

3) However, The Twins play The Royals who have also clinched (just not recently), so they may have have some let down issues as well.

1) Win game 1.

2) Win game 2.

3) Win game 3.

4) Stars align, chips fall, confetti gets thrown and champagne drunk - by one? two? or three teams?

Fun to watch.

The Rangers can't rest because they are playing a possible playoff team. They won't rest players... If they do.. they will get roasted by the baseball community. The other owners... the other GM's... the other managers and probably the Commissioner will nail them if they suspect for a second that they sandbagged at any point.

Unfortunately for the Rangers... Rest will not be allowed. They'd like to bury the Angels tonight so they can maybe take Sunday Off.

As for the D-Backs... They can beat the Astro's. Things like that happen all the time. They've been running a 6 man rotation but will move Ray ahead of Godley to do what they are supposed to do. Try to beat the Astros.

The Royals won't be giving us any breaks either.

The Marlins and Phillies can play anybody they want.

Tonight could be crazy.  MLB Extra Innings is getting a workout at my house tonight.

So much to watch:

  • How will the lack of DH impact Houston's pitching? When will they pull the trigger on Gattis?
  • Can Trout come up big?  Will Josh Hamilton provide a huge payback to his former mates?
  • Can the rookies rise to the occasion - will Rosario or Sano do something special?
  • How loud will Target Field be? - will we see a new tradition? - "The Homer Zubaz"

It is really in clubs best interest to play everyone through Sunday. With the WC games and playoff series not starting til Thu or Fri guys don't need (or want) three or four days off. That is an eternity.

You could start your ace on Sunday and still run him out there for Game 1 on Friday on regular rest.
