The Tigers... If you want to make the playoffs these are the type of teams that you have to roll over.

Here are some things to think about:

1. Detroit -- When people in Michigan try to describe where they are from... they always point at their right hand to show you exactly where because lower Michigan looks like a big hand or glove or mitten. The People from Detroit point at the big meaty fleshy part below the thumb and this is perfect because when you jam your thumb that's the part that gets sore and purple. In the end... Michigan is a big jammed thumb and Detroit is the sore spot.

2. Tigers -- It's the largest cat species... They can grow to be 11 feet and over 800 pounds. For example... Cecil Fielder was once a Tiger. There are subspecies of tiger... The Siberian tiger, which is found roaming the snow, and the Bengal tiger, which are primarily found in the Cincinnati Area. The Detroit Tiger subspecies are primarily power hitters with a questionable pitching staff.

3. The Playoff Race -- 10 games to go and 1.5 back in the Wild Card race. If anyone thinks that isn't doable you are so negative that you'd have to be positive for 3 full years to get back to zero.

4. Matt Boyd - We like left-handers and we got one tonight in Matt Boyd... He's a young left-hander but he has some impressive minor league numbers. Drafted in the 6th round by the Blue Jays out of Oregon State, Matt has performed at each level and has moved steadily upward; and the door was opened wide when he was acquired by the Tigers in the David Price deal. His current ERA is 7.40 so it looks like he has everything figured out.

5. Tiger Stadium on Sunday -- I will be at Comerica on Sunday to watch the game. I'll be in South Bend on Saturday to watch a Notre Dame Football game so I was asking folks around here about the best route from South Bend to Detroit. One guy replied... drive east until it smells like crap and then north until you step in it.

I always think it is conscientious to give directions that do not rely on advanced technology. This fellow has a way with words.

I'm also reminded of friend who always tried to give directions that minimized left turns, based on the fact on normal streets, they are usually more complicated to make.

Riverbrian, I've been positive for 4 straight years (i.e. telling my family that if we could win an x amount of games we would still have a chance at the playoffs until the very day we were eliminated, etc. etc., in which case I'd be so surprised <that bit right there was tongue in cheek, fyi> I'd almost cry). Does that make my saying today that it's not so doable as it may seem positivity on my part? Just curious. :)

I think it makes you positively negative and negatively positive.

Don't sweat it tho... We've always found your conflicted nature charming.

So in other words, what the Twins would have to do to get to a .500 record in the 2011-2020 decade.
