My 25-Man Roster

Recommended Posts

If I had the current 40-man roster, payroll commitments, this is how I would put the active roster together.

C - Suzuki

1B - Mauer

2B - Dozier

3B - Plouffe

SS - Santana

LF - Arcia

CF - Hicks

RF - Hunter

DH - Vargas

Pinto

Escobar

Robinson

Herrmann

1. Hughes

2. May

3. Pelfrey

4. Gibson

5. Nolasco

Perkins

Thomson

Milone

Thielbar (Duensing when healthy)

Pressley

Meyer

Tonkin (Fien when healthy)

It's probably too soon to put Rosario on this roster, but if he figures out AAA, I'd love to see him replace Arcia in LF. Arcia moves to DH and Vargas becomes a bat off the bench and Herrmann goes to AAA.

What do you think? How would you arrange the guys?

I continue to like Nuñez over Herrmann, although Herrmann has some value if he can hit between .230 and .250.  I certainly want Meyer to stick to starting and not convert him into a reliever until he shows he can't be a starter.  I like Oliveros a lot and with your scenario, there are plenty of 40-man spots.  I would prefer him in the bully over Milone for sure.

While I want Hicks to earn a promotion, he is well on his way to doing so.  I don't trust what he has produced, but the numbers are mounting.  Rosario is improving at AAA.  I want him to get a shot this year, as well.

Span finally got hot in the first 40 games (156 at bats, .340 BA, .434 OBP) of 2008 in Triple A, and forced his way to the show to replace Gomez at the top of the order. Hicks looks like he is finally doing that now at Rochester. He is up to .310 now, in his last 10 games is hitting .405, and he has an eleven game hitting streak.

Vargas needs to play some AAA ball, that he never has. A designated hitter has to hit.

Vargas needs a AAA stint. Pinto, Hicks, or Rosario needs to be brought up to replace him. Considering our CF/Outfield issues, Arcia to DH and both Hiicks and Rosario would make me happy. Yes, that means moving on from a certain Center Fielder. We all know which one...
