Baseball Reference is pretty much the greatest site on the interwebs, except maybe for www.talktocontact.com, www.notgraphs.com or www.isitspringtrainingyet.com, so definitely a solid top 4 internet site.

 

Where else can you find out about the relationship between Scott Erickson and Chone Figgins...

 

Player transaction trees are my favorite. Scott Erickson was traded to the Orioles in 1995 for Scott Klingenbeck and a PTBNL who turned out to be Kimera Bartee. Bartee never amounted to much, but was, eventually traded straight up for Chone Figgins. Bartee collected .6 career bWAR, Chone Figgins 22 bWAR, and that all happened because the Twins drafted Scott Erickson in 1989.

 

Klingenbeck went on to a short career and was awarded negative 1.3 bWAR for his collective performance.

 

Scott Erickson (24.9 career bWAR) would go on to earn 13.2bWAR for Baltimore before fizzling out with the Mets, Rangers, Dodgers and Yankees before retiring in 2006. 

 

Scott Erickson turned into Chone Figgins, sort of. 

 

That's pretty damn cool.
