Candle Light Vigil for Trevor May's Career

Pretty sure that this is tongue-in-cheek, but it makes for an interesting conversation...

Herb Pennock, Red Ruffing, Early Wynn, Catfish Hunter, Don Sutton, Rich Gossage, Nolan Ryan, Sandy Koufax.

Three things about that list.  They're all in the HoF, nicknames were way cooler back in the day, and all of them but Pennock and Koufax had ERA+'s in the 90's during their first five seasons.  Only Herb averaged fewer than 100 IP per season.  His ERA+ was 70 over his first five seasons.  Koufax's was a dead-average 100.

And several are high-K guys who suffered from control issues.  Not trying to paint this as a rebuttal to what was just an 'ehh, really?' response to the nothingburger that we all got a big bite of tonight from May's long-anticipated debut.

Just sayin', even some of the best pitchers in the history of the game took years, not months or weeks, to figure things out.  They were all very young when called up, and turned it around about the time they were May's age.

In other words, http://st.depositphotos.com/1516135/2556/i/170/depositphotos_25566425-Earthy-background-image-and-design-element-depicting-the-words-stuff-happens.jpg
