September Call-ups

A couple of the other threads got me thinking about who might get a September call-up so I figured I would go ahead and start a new thread instead of clogging other threads.

Anyway, my predictions for call-ups are:

Vargas

Rosario

Meyer (assuming he hasn't hit his innings limit)

and a last big one

Buxton.

Best case scenario for Buxton is to get to New Britain this month, mash in August and then be the best player in AFL. I can't see any way he gets a call-up short of the Twins making a miracle run and then wanting their fastest player as a pinch runner.

Well, we've entered that wonderful time of the year to be a Twins fan...the mid-season swoon where we recognize the season is over, but still too far away from September prospect time. At any rate, it's a good time to bring up this topic.

I want to see a lot of hot prospects come up for a cup of coffee. Rosario needs to pick it up a little, but it would be fun to see him. I agree that we may see Vargas. I also expect to see Nick Bundi. After a horrendous debut (walked all 4 batters he faced!), he has had two scoreless outings and gotten all of his 6 outs on strikeouts. And hitting 101 on the gun. I want to know how soon he will be our 8th inning guy.

I don't expect to see Meyer. They are being very careful with him, and I don't think he will be pitching anywhere in September.

Buxton isn't on the 40 man...would love to see it. But yea...

I hope Meyer comes up sooner...he's going to be 25 next season, be nice to get him a few big league starts before he turns 25.

I believe May should be up by/in August sometime as well.

I think Vargas is on the 40...so he should be coming up as well.

Is Gilmartin on the 40...if so, can see him getting a cup of coffee. He's also going to be 25 next season.

Yes to the first 3. No to Buxton. I'd guess Tonkin and Darnell may come up as well.

My guess is Colabello, Herrmann, Pino and Johnson will be sent down and brought back up, Pinto will be up, Polanco will be back up, Vargas will be up, Tonkin will be back, Florimon if he's not DFA'd, if Hicks takes off he could be back and Pressly and Ibarra just to see if they are worth keeping on the 40-man. May will be up before.

Assuming Meyer and May have already made their trip to the show. I'd say:

Vargas

Rosario

A large portion of the Rochester pitching staff (relievers and starters)

The last group is a blending of whomever didn't get a call earlier in the year. Sort of a "trial run" to see what we've got for 'pen options.

Well, if the Twins depart with Willingham, Morales, Correia, Suzucki, possibly Duensing, Swarzak, Burton, Guerrier. Maybe Florimon is cut loose. Maybe Fryer is let go, too. There's easily 8 40-man spots to fill. Do you fill them with AAA guys, possibles for 2015 (Gilmartin would be one) or the wildcard rookie (do you add a Buxton, Meyer, whatever this early...I mean you already have Kepler and Polanco flapping away in the minors who won't be here for at least two more seasons on any regular basis). And so many of the bides need to be evaluated for possible deep-sixing come November (Pino, Johnson, Deduno, Fuld, Herrmann, Nunez). I'm sure we will see Tinkin, Vargas, Pinto. I'm sure we won't see Hicks. I would like to see Rosario. It would be ncie of the Twins would give some at bats to Romero and Beresford to see where they fall within the system. Trevor May will make the grade as a bak of the bullpen guy. Pressly will also get called up. And be interesting to see what AAA guy is given a cup of coffee, Reynaldo Rodriguez, perhaps, or Chris Rahl. I doubt the Twins will waste anymore energy on Wilkin Ramirez, although he should be rewarded for resigning with them this season because he thought he might have a chance. Strange world, 40-man rosters. Who to give the major league experience and money to. If your team is dismal come September, who not have a 40-man clubhouse and see who plays how. Especially if you are in running for your 4th straight major losing season. Opps, Logan Darnell will be here, too. Pretty much anyone on the 40-man will be here. Lester Oliveros should egt a look. Deolis Guerra will have to be re-evaluated to see if it is worth while keeping him or letting him walk as a minor league free agent.
