Kendrys Morales Vs Nelson Cruz

  1. The Kendrys Morales deal looks really bad when you think they could have signed Nelson Cruz for actually less money than they gave Morales.
  2. Twins sign Jason Kubel for $2M. He is gone by Tuesday if not earlier.
  3. Nelson Cruz signs with Baltimore for $8M. How many more wins would the Twins have with 21 more HR's.
  4. Kendrys Morales signs for $7.6M or $7.2M. Not sure which amount is correct from which I read from a couple of different sites.

I would have rather signed Nelson Cruz and gave up the 2nd round pick(Nick Burdi) and with some changes in the rotation and bullpen the Twins would have been a first place team in the weak AL Central.

You might thing that giving up a 2nd round pick was worth it, but the FO didnt. And Nelson Cruz was coming back from a PED suspension, so there's some risk. I don't think a lot of people expected him to have anywhere near 21 HR at this point in the season. Hindsight, would Cruz have been a great guy to have in the lineup? Yes, but I don't think that his offense puts the team in contention for the Al central title.

The team struggled with starting pitching in April. Cruz's bat doesn't help that. The offense sputtered in May, but the pitching was better. I like the team as presently constructed, and I like that the Twins went out and signed Morales. I'm not sure I would have been very pleased had the Twins signed Cruz. They're building for the future, Burdi will be part of that. Would Cruz have signed with MN? Would he stick around for the future? Were the Twins thinking of contending in 2014 this past offseason?

I was going to say exactly the same thing. Unless there is a posting before Cruz was signed by the OP saying how good a signing Cruz would be, I think that is a fair critique.

There have been a number of postings going back to January regarding Nelson Cruz.

Pretty bogus of you to use hindsight for one player and an assumption that another won't perform well...in the same comparison. Especially considering the hindsight player is way, way, way overperforming his expectations

Ya know, if you use an "h" as in "rhoids" it just sounds like you're talking about hemorrhoids. Uncomfortable sure; illegal not so much.

And everyone is aware that you treat rhoids with Preparation H, Ren't you?

Anyway, the considerable hindsight aside, it's much more likely that the next contending Twins team will benefit from a young pitcher with a high 90's fastball and low 90's slider than from a guy who Twins fans probably wouldn't know from the Simpsons' Nelson Muntz in a few years.

What position does Muntz play?
