Article: How Do You Like Chris Parmelee Now?

Pretty unfair. There are homers that are homers anywhere and there are homers that would be off the wall in some parks and outs in other parks. Cano has averaged about 28 homers in his last 4 years with the Yankees but now has 1 with Seattle. I saw two he hit this weekend that would have had a good chance to get out at many parks. Hrbek's homers were out at any park while Mauer even in his MVP year had homers at the dome that would definitely not have gone out at Target. Its not just distance but weather. The Rockies for example have been near the top of the league for runs scored for many years without having the cast to do so at many other parks.

At 5280 feet elevation, Coors is a different animal altogether. I still take exception to all of the whining done back when the ballpark opened, including the specious blaming the lack of power on the spruce trees. TF is a tougher place to hit a HR than the Dome or Yankee Stadium? Sure. "Unfair"? Big league hitters should be able to adjust, it's documented that a bunch of guys not named Thome still regularly reach the RF seats in TF.

Parms is currently on a 1 for 17 streak dating back to May 14th, all on the homestand. Teams already adjusting to him? Seattle looked like they were busting him in a lot, something he likes to swing at but not hit much. BA is down to .242. I still don't think he has what it takes. A bigger leg kick won't help him hit an inside fastball.

Personally, I kind of like it. Gardy and TR are holding him responsible for his poor performance so far this season. Hopefully this will light a fire under him and get him performing to an acceptable standard.

Be nice if the Pohlads held Gardy and TR responsible for the last couple years. Fair is fair.

Although to be fair, TR did go out and get some pitching and the team is playing better this year. Not to say that I don't agree with you about the prior years.

Time for him to adjust now. He can alter his approach to hit inside pitches. That's more a timing thing than anything else.

He's played exactly how much? This is what royally bothers me about Gardy. He started out well, got into a slump, and hasn't seen the light of day since. You have to let him work through it, not bench him at the expense of Nunez, Kubel, Cola, etc.

You guys can't see it, but I'm playing a violin for Parms and Kubel. It's really sweet music. It'll make this next sentence easier to hear. Goodbye Chris, Jason, it's been great seeing you again, but, well, it's just not working out anymore.

Parmelee may not have done himself any favors, but nor have the Twins done Parmelee any favors. Parms was not even called up during the outfield pinch in early May.

Leaving spring training, the Twins corner outfield depth appears to have been:

1. Arcia

2. Willingham

3. Kubel

4. Colabello

5. Jason Bartlett

6. Mastroianni

7. Chriss Herrmann,

8. Eduardo Escobar,

9. Chris Parmelee.

Is that about what everyone else had in mind? :)

Since May 26, when Willingham and Arcia returned full time, Parmelee has had 8 plate appearances (before today). Kubel has had 16, twice as many, and Kubel was already well into his slump prior to that.

Also since May 26 Kubel has had twice as many starts as Parmelee, 4 to 2, with Kubel facing guys like Nick Martinez, Nick Tepesch, and Chase Whitley. Unfortunately, Parmelee drew Tanaka in one of his.

Such is life in the doghouse.

Parmelee is only 26, and I've already documented similarities in the side by side development of Parmelee and Torii Hunter, but I have a feeling it's immaterial at this point. I think as long as we win, no one will care much who gets the playing time. With the Morales signing its a good time for the Twins to hit reset. But I still like Parmelee as a 1B/OF utility guy the rest of the year, and going forward.

Parmelee's primary problem is getting beat by fastballs. There's really no cure for that, it happens to most players at some point as they progress through their baseball careers. For some, it's little league. For some, it's high school, or college. A few get to try professional baseball, and many of those find their match there in the minor leagues. And some wash out in the big leagues. Parmelee, to me, is looking like the last group.

It seems that the next decision is whether to designate Parmelee or option Hicks. Certainly Parm hasn't been a world beater since a nice start, but I think he will survive because it will help Hicks to be sent down. It wouldn't stun me if Parm was designated and I really can't feel sorry if it happens.

I am afraid you are right, Chief. Pretty hard to fix that problem.

I had big dreams for Chicken Parm, hopes and dreams the size of Mt Rainier. That's big folks. But he's just not getting it done. Maybe he's just a AAAA guy. Maybe he has a future in Japan or Korea, but I just don't know that he has a future in MLB.
