I was thinking about Houston. They are still going cheap, might be willing to get some affordable pitching for a catching prospect.

I agree. The problem is that AAAA players are not that hard to find. Most MLB rosters feature some of those players.

I cannot see the Twins putting together a group of potential 5th starters and actually getting anything. No one else has the roster room, either.

Cannot imagine why the Padres would let Smith go. He's their Alex Meyer.

There is no SS on the market that looks better than Escobar's numbers from AAA last year.

They have 6 starters and the tail end are better than our group of AAA guys. Beachy would be the guy I'd target, however, we just traded with them, so it would have been more condusive to try to get him then.

I think Alex Meyer will end up with the 5th spot out of Spring Training. I can't see any of those other guys really giving him much of a challenge. Sure they might put up good Spring Training numbers. But if Meyer isn't missing his locations (catcher sits outside, pitch flies inside) and has doesn't have a high BB% total - I just can't see them pitching him every 5th or 6th day as the #5.

I haven't been much of a believer in Kyle Gibson since we drafted him. But he seems like a great guy, intelligent, and at least before his injury - a crafty pitcher. So I'd pull for him, even though I never thought he'd ever be part of a MLB rotation.

The glut of AAAA guys is somewhat nice in that if there's a shoulder tweak or anything like that you can just bring up a guy and he can pitch on short notice. One of those AAAA guys who can do a pinch start is usually the long reliever, a la Brian Duensing.

I had no idea Doumit could be traded. So that's about as much as I know going forward, but I agree with the guys above, I think there will be a few more trades that ultimately affect the 25 man roster.

I don't think the 5th starter candidates get packaged together. I think one of them gets packaged with a reliever like Duensing/Swarzak/Burton or Fein. Perhaps another starter gets packaged with Plouffe. His days at 3B are numbered and the Twins have been talking about Mark Reynolds.

Trade Albers with a reliever, Duensing or Burton. because Albers was somewhat of a decent starting pitcher and could build on that, maybe not, that's why you'd add a reliever. In return you'd probably get an AAA minor leaguer who's a decent SS or SP.

What would we have to give up to receive Castro from the Cubs? Young gifted SS who could pair with any of our 2B options for years to come. What would it take????????????

They still have Baez for SS and Ott for 3B moving forward.

I like Castro also. I would start with Berrios and Thorpe. King Theo is in a rebuild just like us, but their ETA is 2016. His future position talent rivals ours, but we have more starting pitching prospects.

MLBR has reported it twice in the last month that he was avalible and once that Matt Wisler was also

As for Alex Meyer breaking camp with the Twins,I would be pissed, we are not going any where with this team as it is, so why give up a year of team controll in a waste year? He can come up in July after a few months in AAA if he does well and get established
