Low Profile MI Trade

Twins Video

With the Winter Meetings looming and the Twins having already made some impressive moves, one player who intrigues me is Danny Espinosa of the Nats. A 2b/ss who has kinda fell out of favor in the Nats organization. The Twins could use some help in the MI and Espinosa might be had for a minimal price. He strikes out to much and has a low BA. But he has 4 years of team control, is a switch-hitter, has really good pop, and a pretty good defensive player at both 2b/ss. He was a highly touted prospect and maybe hasn't fulfilled his potential yet. With the Nats trading Lombardozzi it maybe changes how they feel about Espinosa. But Espinosa is the type of player the Twins should look at to help their MI and can maybe be had for a very resonable price. Plus four years of team control. A very reasonable gamble on a player who might break-out and be a useful player. He hasn't played much ss in the majors because of Desmond, but he would be good competition for Florimon at ss and would give us some depth there.

Living in DC suburbs--familiar with Espinosa--like getting Espinosa from Nats--we do need MI depth--especially if Dozier's 2013 2nd half is a fluke. I wouldn't give up a top prospect, but one of our bullpen guys (not Perkins) or a low prospect would be a good trade. Doubt if Nats would take Doumit or Willingham off our hands.

I don't know much about him at all, but will make the assumption as to good defense that you allude to. His numbers in the minors show power and speed along with decent average and on base as well. I like the switch hitting, and agree he might be a bloomer with a change of scenery.

But if the Nats are losing interest, ok. But if not, and with the Lombo trade, I have to wonder what he might cost.

Dozier and Florimon in place, Escobar younger than Espinosa, and coming off some good AAA numbers and reports he's doing well in winter ball, plus Beresford as a possible UTILIF that has had me intrigued for some time, I guess it comes down to cost to acquire, what the Twins really think about Escobar, as well as Santana's future. Santana could potentially be close. And what if Escobar is finally ready to, if not exactly explode, but become at least a valuable and versatile backup/platoon option?

Yeah, I've wondered about Espinosa before. I like the idea of sniffing around at him for sure. Any idea why he hasn't taken off?

BTW, this sort of short post, where you ask a question and look for feedback, might generate a lot of discussion in the forum if you started it as a thread instead of a blog. Shoot me a message if you have trouble doing that.

Agreeing the Twins should be looking to upgrade any where they can , And if the price is right It would be a good move. Another posible target is Burch Smith , this guy has better stats and the same upside as Meyer, The Padres are looing for left handed relief , to me even if it took Perkins , I make the move
