Per Buster Olney at ESPN (posted this morning), the Phillies are the front-runners for Wheeler. The Reds, White Sox and Rangers are also mentioned as possibilities.

"The bidding for right-hander Zack Wheeler continues to progress toward resolution, with the Philadelphia Phillies seen by sources as the most potent bidders -- and the Reds, White Sox and Rangers also involved."

Agreed. As recently as yesterday, the Twins were listed among the strong possibilities, so it seems as though we have dropped out. A report is just a report, anything could still happen, but Olney is pretty good and I feel like this means the Twins have dropped out of the bidding.

As much as I'd like to see it happen for the Twins, I'm almost certain it won't. Other teams always find a way to come up with the money, even though our "window" is wide open. Prove me wrong Mr. Falvey!

It's not going to happen. They will not sign any of the front line starters available this offseason and they won't make any trades for anything good either. When have they done otherwise? Jack Morris? That was 20+ years ago. Typical Twins. Maybe next year.

I would like to see the Twins add a top of the rotation starting pitcher. Not really sure Wheeler is that guy. His stats are above average, but not by a much.

Maybe they'll trade for someone, using their prospect capital, but not paying $20M per year for an slightly above average pitcher will be difficult for me to get real upset about.

Rangers appear to be out.

If the Twins are out, I hope he goes to Philly or Cincy.  If he goes to the White Sox, then I'll end up rooting for a quick decline.  I know I'm a horrible person.

Edit:  For me, 5/100 is the absolute ceiling for Wheeler.  If it's more than that, then the Twins should just make a run for Cole or Strasburg.

Wheeler is going to get someone to give him a 6th year and it's going to be a 130M+
Cole/Strasburg will be at 6/240M+
I say we wrap up Pineda this afternoon - and start contemplating trades. I hope I am wrong but these starting pitching dollars being thrown around do not sound like Twins financial territory to me.
