Can we make Hanley Ramirez a focus?

Twins Video

blog-0764222001543264111.jpgYes, last year wasn't great for Hanley Ramirez. But the fact that there's little news about an MLB team having an interest in Hanley is surprising. The Twins could be a refreshing home for the former NL Rookie of the Year and 3-time all-star. With the need of veteran presence and a gap in the middle of the infield, I'm shocked that the Twins don't have him on their radar. He's playing in the Dominican League right now so I can't imagine he would break the bank... Thoughts?

I am one of the negatives.  Sorry, I know you would like someone to agree with you, but I consider Hanley to be a career disappointment.  He had 0.2 WAR on a Red Sox team!  He has 38 WAR in 14 years and in the last four it has been (-1.3), 2.8, (-0.3) and 0.2.  Lets move forward, his value days are long gone and he is not a good cyber Monday deal.

In 14 years his total wins above average is 16.  Not a star. His totatl defensive WAR is a negative so no value there.

Why would we want him?

Yeah, hard pass from me on that one.

The glove is burned and the bat looked to be heading the same way.

Obviously he wouldn't be expensive, but there's a reason nobody jumped on the grenade after Boston cut him loose.

The time to get Ramirez was last season.  When we had numerous holes in the lineup in the first half and we were still trying to compete.  I would turn the page from here, but I wouldn't be opposed to a minor league signing later on in the offseason if it looks like we may have AB for him in spring training.  If he could be a part time 1B/ DH/ RF then maybe he could be good for 400-500 AB during the season on a low base salary if he wants to play.  But Ramirez is someone I wouldn't sign until after all the chips have fallen for the offseason.

Ok ok, you are all making fair points. Must be my childhood wow factor for Hanley that gives me faith that he could turn it around and bring some postseason swagger to the team. Let me reconstruct this conversation... Can we make DJ LeMahieu a focus??
