It was a rough week for the Twins in Chicago as the team got swept by one of their biggest rivals in a three game set. Minnesota won't have to wait long to get another shot at the White Sox as Chicago will come to Minnesota at the beginning of next week. For now, the focus of the club will turn to the Cleveland Indians over the weekend, a series where the Twins could play spoiler to a team trying to get back into the division race. Even with the team playing some important games over the cour
Last season, the switch-hitting Alexi Casilla had produced at a very good rate against right-handed pitching. In 247 plate appearances in the left-handed batter’s box, he hit .274/.350/.400 – not too shabby for a middle infielder. This was a significant improvement for someone who had hit .228/.299/.320 from the left-side over the two previous seasons (2009 and 2010) in 314 plate appearances. Most analysts would likely dismiss his 2011 breakout as a statistical glitch of the effects of a sma
The Twins were off today, but there was still plenty of action. Trevor Plouffe announced on Twitter this morning that he would be back tomorrow. And before their afternoon (or was it morning?) game, the Red Wings activated Deolis Guerra from the DL and placed Dan Sattler on the DL. Later this evening, the Twins announced they were placing Anthony Swarzak on the DL with a rotator cuff strain. To take his place, the Twins will purchase the contract of RP Luis Perdomo. Since the 40-man r

I was surprised by this, and after a quick Twitter inquiry, I learned that I wasn't the only one. It didn't seem like there were any tell-tale signs that he was hurting like there there were with Carl Pavano and Matt Capps, no
Well it was an extremely disappointing series against the WhiteSox. Liriano’s trade value probably took a hit and the bullpen was shelled. On the plus side Willingham keep hitting and getting on base, however the Twins have come out and said they are not looking to trade him. All I want to do is scream “why?!” As I posted before Willingham is a luxury we cannot afford tokeep. He is putting up numbers no one saw him producing and he isn’t getting any younger. The only thing that is keeping me fro
Originally posted at Knuckleballs. Yesterday afternoon 32,261 baseball fans were treated to a 4.1 inning performance fromNick Blackburn in which more batters hit home runs (2) than struck out (1). Before he was yanked midway through the 5th inning, Blackburn faced 23 batters, and gave up 10 hits and 8 runs (all earned). Unfortunately for Twins fans, this marked Blackburn’s 8th start of 2012 in which he gave up 5 or more earned runs and failed to get through the 6th inning. In fact, Blackburn

Since the start of the 2011 season, the Twins have a recordof103-157. Only the Houston Astros have a worse record in that time (90-170).As the trade deadline approaches, it is striking how active the Astros havebeen in making trades while the Twins have been pretty quiet to this point. Since the beginning of July 2011, the Twins have made thefollowing moves: · August 2011 – Traded Delmon Young to Detroit forRHP Lester Oliveros and LHP Cole Nelson. · August 2011 – Traded Jim Th
Two big pitching trades have been made this week and several more have been close. With all that activity, could it be that Terry Ryan has missed his chance to maximize his return on Francisco Liriano? I don’t think so, but I also doubt we’ll see a move soon. Still Lots Of Interest The Tigers acquired Anibal Sanchez on Monday and the Pirates traded for Wandy Rodriguez on Tuesday. Both are top notch pitchers that could be viewed as comparable (or better) than Liriano. Furthermore, yesterday D

Trevor Plouffe has an injury to his thumb and he has missed five consecutive games as he tries to recover. He tried to work out over the last couple of days and it sounds like gripping and swinging the bat have been tough for him to
With New Britain likely headed toward the playoffs, we may not see some prospects early in September. Hermsen and Benson would be probables, but I am especially eager to see Hicks and Arcia. With his five hits on Wednesday, Hicks has moved to the top ten in league OPS, and most of the others on the list are 1B or DH. Most importantly, his left-handed productivity has caught up with his right-handed productivity this summer. Meanwhile, Arcia would be leading the league in both BA and OPS if h

Aaron Hicks goes 5-6 today with 2 doubles and a homerun. He also scored 5 runs. This brings his average up to .284. Good to see this kid finally starting to blossom and I will eagerly anticipate how mangagement plays this out the rest of the year.
There's still a lot of debate over whether or not the Minnesota Twins should trade Francisco Liriano. Sure he's the best pitcher on the staff of a team that's rather desperate for starting pitching, but he's also a free-agent-to-be with a demanding agent who will probably be looking for a sizable pay day (one that we likely can't afford). Yet, there are plenty of people who would like Frankie Franchise to stick around now that he's figured out how to be consistently dangerous on the hill (Monday

As the July 31st trade deadline approaches, the Twins are judging which players should be dealt. Denard Span and Francisco Liriano are atop that list, but perhaps the most valuable player Minnesota possesses will likely remain here into August. Josh Willingham, who has been even better than I think anyone expected, is oddly not being shopped around, according to 1500 ESPN. Willingham currently has a .271/.384/.551 triple slash this year, and that doesn’t even include his 2 HR game from T
The Twins seemed to be sitting pretty on Tuesday evening after a couple of long balls from Josh Willingham and a very solid start from Cole DeVries. The bullpen took over in the seventh inning and the White Sox decided to put on a slugfest for the rest of the game. During the explosion by the bullpen in the final two innings, the Twins offense failed to score any more runs and the game ended with a final score of 11-4, an ugly blowout loss at the hands of the White Sox. Tomorrow afternoon, the

First of all thanks to those who read my first article thatI posted yesterday. I got more views then I hoped for. One person even likedit, thanks mom! Well if it’s allowed on a Twins blog I have a few thoughtson yesterday’s trades. It looks like the Tigers are going all in for 2012. Theytraded a top 15 pitching prospect a couple fringe prospects and a sandwich draftpick for next season. What they got in return was Anibal Sanchez, Who is an aboveaverage pitcher and certainly a need for the tiger
Jose Rodriguez was the Twins Daily short-season minor-league hitter of the year. He is at the Dominican facilities for spring training now but will likely join Extended Spring Training in Fort Myers.
I really hold back what I would like to say about then payroll arguments here. The fact that people don't accept the amount taken in dictates the amount going out requires one of two things. Extreme financial ignorance or fanatical bias that prevents the acceptance of something some basic. I did not change the argument. It's the same idiocy over and over. Do you really want to be on the side that suggests revenues does not determine spending capacity?
