Twins Sabermetic Stats

Sean Doolittle of the Oakland A's did a guest piece for ESPN and made up some Sabermetric stats for Oakland, including in his list were BDP (Beard Dependent pitching), WPA/3+C (win probablitly added with three plus catchers in the lineup) and frFSR (right field fan scouting report) along with others, You can check the article for the full list.   What sort of tongue in cheek stats would the Twins have?   LAR (Legs above replacement) If you have bi-lateral leg weakness, that's an automatic -2.0 o

Trolling Joe Mauer

There's a new fad going around MLB with funny signs trolling players. Hunter Pence has been trolled pretty hard by fans across the country, and the Astros mascott, Orbit, was giving it to J.P Arencibia pretty good when Tornoto was in town last week. My favorite was "J.P. Arencibia cried during the Notebook." That's prime time, grade-A, trolling.   Joe Mauer is the face of the Twins ballclub, but this season he's struggled to play up to Joe Mauer levels, and to stay healthy. Fans have been booing

Episode 93: TC Bear and the T-Shirt Gun

http://assets.podomatic.net/ts/19/ad/da/paulpleiss/1400x1400-149x149+35+42_9790166.jpg This week on the podcast Paul learns about ground rule triples, and strangely enough, if does not include TC Bear going on a rampage with his T-shirt gun (but we'd pay good money to see that happen). The Twins offense has struggled to score runs recently (what's new?) and Joe Mauer is still working his way back from injury. The scholarship program is over in Minnesota (again) as Matt Guerrier was DFA'd to make

Episode 91: The All-Star Game and ERolf's Solo Podcast

http://assets.podomatic.net/ts/19/ad/da/paulpleiss/1400x1400_9746103.jpg   For the first time ever we only had one Talk to Contact co-host available for a podcast. Stepping out into unfamiliar territory Eric managed to build a 40 minute podcast that wasn't terrible. He talked about Twins news from the past week, including Brian Dozier hilariously being added to the Home Run Derby, and talked a lot about what is going on with the pitching staff down in AAA Rochester. He did the regular beer,

Episode 90: "It's like prevent defense with linebackers in the defensive backfield"

http://assets.podomatic.net/ts/19/ad/da/paulpleiss/1400x1400_9728178.jpg The Twins have struggled mightily on the road recently, but thanks to Kyle Gibson, they were able to snap the road losing skid at 10 games before coming home to drop two of three to the Kansas City Royals. This week we take a look at what's been going wrong for the Twins and what it means for the franchise going into the All-Star break.Joe Mauer is on the DL, Brian Dozier is slumping, and Josh Willingham can't seem to find

Episode 89 - The Roster Crunch and Jorge Polanco

http://assets.podomatic.net/ts/19/ad/da/paulpleiss/1400x1400_9712182.jpg   This week we spend time talking about the series of roster moves and player swaps that lead to Jorge Polanco being called up from High-A Fort Myers to the Big League club. We talk about Byron Buxton's rehab, Kendrys Morales finally hitting a home run for the Twins, and the Twins' struggles on the road. We go Down on the pond and talk about Pat Kelly (Cody and Jay interviewed Pat but the audio did not come through clearly,

Trevor talked about his approach to pitching, what he's been doing in 2014 that has allowed him to be successful, and how much fun he's having as a member of the outstanding pitching staff in Triple-A Rochester. Just Cody and Eric this week, in addition to talking with Trevor May, they talk about what the Twins have been doing well (pitching) and what they have not been d

Episode 87: When Cats attack, reviewing the draft

http://assets.podomatic.net/ts/19/ad/da/paulpleiss/1400x1400-558x558+394+15_9669899.jpg If you're listening to this podcast, you probably have more than a passing interest in Twins baseball. You've probably read about all of their draft picks, even guys drafted after the first few rounds, like Minnesota native Pat Kelly, who was taken in the 10th round. Jay is driving the episode this week, so prepare your ears for a little different sound, but have no fear, other than lots of cat noises in the

http://assets.podomatic.net/ts/19/ad/da/paulpleiss/1400x1400-208x208+6+0_9647196.jpeg   This week on the podcast we talk about the resurgance of Josh Willingham since his return from the Disabled List (being healthy is pretty important, I guess), we ramble on a bit about Aaron Hicks and the failure of the front office to have any sort of reasonable back up plan (has this rant been beaten to death yet? Yes? Good, we'll keep bringing it up), and we talk about all of the students Down on the Pond

A Lament: Jarod Burton

A Lament   By Percy Bysshe Shelley 1792–1822 Retold by Paul Pleiss   O world! O life! O time! On whose last steps Jarod Burton doth climb, Trembling at that where he had stood 66ft 6in before; When will return the glory of your prime? No more—Oh, never more!   Out of the day and night A joy has taken flight; Fresh spring, and summer, and winter hoar, Move my faint heart with grief, but with delight No more—Oh, never more!

We pick a pitcher and hitter of the week, and talk about Minor Leaguer Zack Granite when we go down on the pond. Th
