Introducing the Dregs Division

The Twins are currently in last place in the AL Central and appear to have little or no chance of competing for the division title this year (how about that for an understatement). In the Dregs Division, however, the Twins are only 2 games out of first place.   Dregs Division (thru 28 games)
Team W L GB 1962 New York Mets 9 19 2012 Minnesota Twins 7 21 2.0
Tune in from time to time when the AL Central standings get you really depressed to see how

Random Tuesday Twins Thoughts and Tidbits

Originally published at The Tenth Inning Stretch ----   Here is this week's installment: With Jayson Werth out at least 3 months, the Twins have a perfect opportunity to see what they can get from the contending Nationals for Denard Span. Alexi Casilla did turn the corner (Big time) with the glove. He has been by far the Twins' best fielder, using a couple of different measurements: Defensive Runs Saved above average with 8 (second best is Span with 5) and UZR with 5 (second best, Span, has 1.

Tuesday's Rock Cats Report

[Originally published at Twins Fan From Afar]   New Britain had an unscheduled night off Monday, and maybe that was a good thing. At 18-12, the Rock Cats are just 1.5 games out of first place in their division, but are 5-5 over their last 10 games, and had lost 2 of 3 to the Portland Sea Dogs over the weekend before Monday evening's contest against the Binghamton Mets was rained out. So it's a good time to take notice of a few things.     First, player movement. If you haven't read it here or el

Opening Presents Too Early

Brian Dozier turns 25 next Tuesday.   That’s not young for a prospect. This spring he barely made the cut of Baseball America’s top 10 Twins prospects. Above him on that list were Chris Parmelee (who is hitting .203), Liam Hendriks (who is being demoted to AAA-Rochester) and Joe Benson (who was demoted yesterday to AA-New Britain yesterday). He has never hit even double-digits home runs in his minor league career. Prior to this year, he was never a fulltime shortstop in the minors.   Anticipatio

Hope is Not a Strategy

So, how's my opening day wish list doing? About as well as yours, I expect.   But, since I don't have yours, I'm going to review mine.   So here are the 'original' wishes/hopes/dreams/fantasies - with comments after one month of harsh reality.   1) Mauer plays well and stays healthy and is in serious contention for a batting title and even MVP consideration. Well, Joe's been healthy, at least. Even with the foul tip to the knee, he's amassed more plate appearances than everyone else except Span

A Move the Twins Can Make Now

My fandom for this team is wavering - I can admit it. In March I was optimistic that the Twins could put the 2011 disaster behind them and have a respectable season, hell maybe even a winning season. It is now clear that my 'rose-colored glasses' were on and those glasses now lay broken in pieces on the ground. Reality is a bitch sometimes. After watching historic offensive ineptitude over the last 5 games, watching the team get no-hit and swept by the Angels and handled easily by the low

Time to Question Mauer's Health Yet?

Yes, he missed only one game, which is a testament to the fact that he is resolute in his desire to to play

The Twins middle infield of the future opens tonight

Originally published at The Tenth Inning Stretch ---   Tonight will be the premiere in the big leagues of Twins' infielder Brian Dozier. Dozier was the Twins' 8th round draft pick in 2009 out of the University of Southern Mississippi. He signed right away so he had time to play pro ball in 2009. He quickly moved through the Twins' system, playing for both rookie level teams in 2009, both A-level teams in 2010, starting in Fort Myers in 2011 and ending up in New Britain and then in the Arizon

Dozier won't be savior of Twins offensive woes

Original post from North Dakota Twins Fan ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FFgRnR1HgUo/T6bT_Z9h9VI/AAAAAAAABP8/F-u9e8GnaoA/s320/DozierTwins.jpg The offense for the Minnesota Twins has been horrendous in recent games with Jered Weaver throwing a no-hitter and Felix Hernandez tossing a one-hit shutout. Granted these are two of the best pitchers in the American League but the stagnant offense was too much for the front office to ignore as the Twins end their West Coast road trip. The Twi

2012 Day-by-Day - May 6

As a heads up, I will try my best to continue this on a daily basis, but this next week requires me to be working my 2nd job (as an Usher at Target Field) every night so I may not be able to update nightly as I have thus far. I will certainly try my best, and for those of you going to the game, stop by section 329 after the 4th inning to say Hi!   May 6, 2012: Hitter of the Day: Ryan Doumit - RF - MIN - MLB: 3-3 2 HR (3), 2 RBI, 2 R, 1 BB   Pitcher of the Day: Jason Wheeler - LHP - BEL - A:

Morneau, Series Recap, and Other Notes

Originally posted at k-bro's baseball blog   Remember back in late April when the Twins faced the Red Sox and Royals and lost like 6-7 and I said "if you score six runs, you ought to win the ballgame" (well, I didn't actually say it so you could hear it, but my husband heard it, so just work with me here)?     I miss those days.     The Twins have officially become "that" team. You know, the team that all other teams, even if they're bad teams, look forward to facing because they know they'll

Kinda Gross!   Did the offense give the pitching a break for a week? No Hits in L.A. Well, there's nothing like having a pitcher throw a no-hitter against you to get the focus off the pitching, huh? On Wednesday, the 2nd of May, Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher, Jered Weaver, pitched a no-hitter aga
