A reminder as to why I don't read the mlb.com comments.

Today I went to the mlb website and read some of the comments concerning Robertson's MLB debut, Revere, and Gardy's thoughts on who are All-Stars for he Twins. I also made the mistake of reading the comments and I have problems with them. 1) A large majority of the comments were simply dissing Gardy. I understand being frustrated but in my opinion Gardenhire has been a solid, if unspectacular manager. The Twins have hit a rough patch in their history and Gardy is getting ripped apart. 2) Many of

Tuesday's Trip through the Minors

With all of the talk before the game about Twins hitters destroying Gavin Floyd, it was bound to happen that he was going to put up a good performance. Over the course of seven shut out innings, he struck out nine Twins batters and only gave up five hits. Liam Hendriks had his best start of the season throwing over six innings to the tune of three runs with an Alex Rios home run being the big dagger.   In the ninth inning, the Twins made things interesting by loading the bases with two outs in t

Let's Make a Deal for Matt Capps

Welcome back to everybody's favorite form of roster-modification: LET'S MAKE A DEAL! That's right, I pretend to be Wayne Brady, you pretend to be Terry Ryan dressed up like a giant Radish! (Also, you pick a trading partner for an expendable player on the Twins roster) First, let's reveal what we came away with last week as we made a deal for Denard Span. Between the three comments on Twins Daily, the one comment here and the poll votes it winds up with 6 votes to keep Denard and 4 to trade him (

Random Tuesday Twins Thoughts and Tidbits

Originally published at The Tenth Inning Stretch ---   Here is this week's installment:   A first in Minnesota Twins' press coverage: A beat writer questions one of Gardy's decisions last Saturday, and Gardy lashes back at him “We’ll do the managing, and you should write.” Unfortunately for the ones who are doing the managing, pretty much everyone can manage a team to the worst record in the AL two seasons in a row. Congratulations to: Bobby Lanigan, Luis Perdomo and Caleb Thielbar who

Tuesday Morning Tidbits

The Twins got their homestand off to a good start against the AL Central leading White Sox. An outstanding performance from Francisco Liriano was more than enough to lead the Twins to the victory. It was a milestone win for the Twins franchise in their new home as it was the team's 100th victory at Target Field. In that time span, the team is only a couple games over .500 so it would be nice to get that winning percentage a little higher. It's another Tuesday so that means I will be covering all

Starting Pitching for 2013 and Beyond

2012 has been a rough year for the Minnesota Twins starting rotation. Ineffectiveness and injuries have led to the worst ERA in the American League and with Nick Blackburn pitching every five games that’s likely not going to change.   With the trade deadline nearing and the likelihood that the Twins will swap major leaguers for prospects, it’s time to take a look at what the Twins have in their farm system.   Most of these pitchers will not be ready for 2012 or even 2013 but all have ceilings t

WWTD? (What Will Terry Do?)

This article was originally posted at Knuckleballsblog.com.   Six weeks ago, I put up a post here arguing that it was much too soon to “pull the plug” on the Twins’ 2012 season. I argued that, despite an admittedly dismal start, the Twins were performing fairly well on most fronts, with the glaring exception of their starting pitching, and that they were just about to begin playing their own Division rivals on a regular basis. Feel free to go back and read the whole article, but here was my

Matt Capps Paper Doll, and Being Snippy About It

Originally posted at k-bro's baseball blog   http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VhO3HOnh3Ek/T-kRGZaRzsI/AAAAAAAAB7s/1X1Bs0Em1Y4/s400/cappsshoulder.PNG The Twins have placed RHP Matt Capps on the 15-day DL with right shoulder inflammation. He had a MRI on Monday, which indicated that there is no damage, just inflammation, and it sounds like he's going to have a cortisone shot this week.     Left-handed pitcher Tyler Robertson was recalled to take Capps' roster spot. Gardy said that he will use LHP

Trade Target Team Profile: Philadelphia Phillies

The Big Picture Stop me if this sounds familiar. A team with championship aspirations faces a slew of injuries to their best players. They find themselves last in their division but hope that the players return will boost them back into contention. At the trade deadline they must make a tough decision: stick to the plan or write off a season in a championship era whose window could be closing.   Yep - the Phillies are having the year the Twins had last year. But instead of a fan base of Minnesot

Searching for a Revere home run

Original post from North Dakota Twins Fan ~~~~~~~~~~~~ http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yaAI7GTYUMk/T-fh2GGYd_I/AAAAAAAACVY/tJSPVaCpYMA/s400/RevereHR.jpg It's not like searching for El Dorado or the Fountain of Youth because people have seen it before. Unlike the sightings of Big Foot or the Loch Ness Monster, there is more than tangible evidence that this is not just a fluke of nature. It happened as recent as last season for Triple-A Rochester but there still might need to be an expedition to find

2012 Day-by-Day - June 23-24

Recap:   https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AiRVhKu18uIhdDBSYUc5UGtSMkluOEFSWFdnTVdvQVE&output=html   I'm thinking of possibly making this more of a weekly feature, coming out usually on Sundays. Within that I would likely have organization stats and Hitter of the Week and Pitcher of the Week. As always, leave thoughts if any.

Snappers Wrap Up

This article was originally posted on Knuckleballsblog.com.   I had to leave Sunday’s Snappers game with the Cedar Rapids Kernels a couple innings early in order to get ready to catch a flight, but the Kernels had the game pretty well in hand by the time I walked out the gate.   The Snappers scored one run in the top of the first inning, but probably should have had more. Nate Roberts and JD Williams each singled to start the game and Miguel Sano sent a towering fly ball to right field, wh

Aaron and special guest co-hosts Joe Nelson and Nick Nelson talk about Matt Capps' injury and the closer replacements, Trevor Plouffe's case for the All-Star game, what to do with Francisco Liriano, the buyer versus seller debate, Brian Duensing's move back into the rotation, more Josh Willingham heroics, Byron Buxton's pro debut, and why John Bonnes shouldn't even bother coming back from vacation.

Another Snappers Shutout

This article was originally posted at Knuckleballsblog.com. I have no idea exactly why Twins GM Terry Ryan is in Cedar Rapids watching his organization’s Class A affiliate this weekend, but if he’s here to evaluate the Beloit Snappers’ pitching, he has to like what he’s seen in the first two games!     http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a39/CapitalBabs/Baseball/Steve/ShibuyaSanoJune2012a.jpg Pitcher Tim Shibuya and 3B Miguel Sano   The Snappers’ hitters provided plenty of support in Friday n

A Snappers Pitching Gem

The following article was originally posted at Knuckleballsblog.com   While the Twins were winning the opening game of their series with the Reds Friday night, I was spending just about a perfect night watching minor league baseball. The Beloit Snappers (the Twins’ Midwest League affiliate) opened the second half of their season here in Cedar Rapids against the Kernels.     http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a39/CapitalBabs/Baseball/Steve/ScoutsJune2012b.jpg   Close to 20 scouts were easy to sp
