Bloggers: What would you like to see in the blog section?

blog-0870413001423161776.jpgI've been looking at the blog section of the site lately and see that it hasn't gotten any TLC since launch. I made some small changes to how the blogs are listed in the mobile section of the site this morning and that got me thinking... I'm not a blogger. I should ask you bloggers what you want changes you'd like to see made to the site.

 

I'm open to any suggestions, though obviously, time constraints may apply to whether the requested changes are feasible or not.

 

So, what would you like to see? More customizability in the blog sections, better image support, different sorting methods? Give me your feedback on anything blog-related and I'll compile the most requested changes and see what I can do about it.

 

Please don't suggest "carry over blog comments to the front page", though... I'd love to do that and it's a long-term goal but it simply isn't feasible right now. It'll get done at some point but that change will require a complete rethinking of how comments are generated and posted.

Maybe this is covered elsewhere and I have not found it.  There are a number of very talented Cuban baseball players that have or will be making it to the MLB.  The latest being Yoan Moncada.  An article on how some of these players would fit into the Twins organization would be nice.  The Twins do not seem to be linked to any of these free agents.  Is there a reason for this?

You already mentioned my biggest issue with blog post, carrying over the comments to front page/forums, which I think we have dicussed previously. I look forward to that long term goal completion.

 

I like the current blog view. I would like to see the recent blogs section on the Front page moved up. I know that's probably a pipe dream, but I'm much more intersted in getting a quick look at any new blogs than I am reading about what's happening in other MinnCentric sites.

Actually, we're working on a new front page that might do exactly that. One of my goals is to raise the blog section's prominence on the front page.

 

I haven't really cracked that nut yet but I'm working on it. IMO, the sidebar system works okay toward the top of the screen but it has limitations as you scroll down the page. I think we can create a better layout and we're working on it.

It is so greatly improved from before that I don't really care. I do get curious about things like number of comments and views, so sorting by those things might be interesting.

 

Oh . . . and there is the whole issue about getting blog posts promoted to become articles. Ahem . . .

BTW, minor new feature added, everybody. Do you like a particular user blog and want to receive notifications when it updates?

 

Just go to that user blog page and at the top of the page near the blog title - remember, this is the blog itself, not specific entries - you'll see a "Follow this Blog" button.

 

Click that and you'll be notified every time the blog updates.
