Wolfson: Twins sign OF/1B Ben Paulson

According to Darren Wolfson, the Twins have signed OF/1B Ben Paulsen to a minor league deal with a spring training invitation.

 

 

Paulsen spent parts of the last three seasons with the Rockies. He's 4th OF material. Insurance should they trade or get rid of Kennys Vargas or Byungho Park. Most likely intended as AAA depth.

Hope he enjoys rubbing elbows with the major leaguers during his month in Ft Myers.

 

A .762 career OPS for a Rockies player (i.e., .705 on the road) isn't going to cut it at a corner defensive position.

 

I'm not against signings such as this. Depth is needed in the minors, which is how Seth pegs it.

Yeah there isn't much 1B help in the upper minors. Reynaldo Rodriguez and Dalton Hicks are about it unless we're already inking Park and Vargas to AAA. Even if one of them is destined for Rochester, they'll need a DH as well.

Rodriguez is a free agent.

Hicks might get to AAA This year.

The Twins were able to get Vargas an extra option. Park has two left.

 

Grossman isn't a guarantee to make the big league club. Rosario could be a trade option.  

 

The Twins lost Adam Brett Walker. Travis Harrison may move up to Rochester to play RF. Granite will be in CF. Paulsen can play LF presumably. 

 

Gotta fill out the minor league rosters.
