2016 Hammond Happenings

Good idea, Seth, a current thread.

Chilly, windy morning today.  Not many of us out there, but did see a funny thing happen.  A couple of the professional auto hounds were spying for Park.  Finally they did get him walking to the stadium from the minor league end with Perry C.  He signed for them, but a couple is never enough for these types, so they hung out another hour or so and when he did come out to his car, they descended on him again.  Only thing was - his right hand was in a bag of ice.  He strained his wrist swinging in the cages.

See... He's already injured. All of a sudden, the Quentin signing is looking like a pretty smart move by TR.

Ok, battery went dead, at Barnes and Noble and found an outlet.

Nocryinginbaseball and Bob Sacamento were there also today, and Bob found on twitter about Parks wrist strain.

Not much went on today, some throwing and pitchers drills for rehabbing guys.  Gibson. Shag-whaa, Randy Roserio and Melotokis threw off the mound in the pen.

So far, no hitting on the fields, but they do hit in the cages and today Phil Roof threw to them on there.   Arcia took fly balls in the outfield.  No sign of Sano today, or AB Walker who I have seen for 3 days.

Pitchers here are Perkins, Hughes, Fien and Gibson, who has done two pens in 3 days now.

I moved to Miami over a couple of weeks ago and perhaps the best part of it is that I can make the jaunt across Alligator Alley once every week or two to see our boys of summer!
By the time I got there yesterday, I was told that Sano had been working hard going up & down that hill next to the minor league practice field. Maybe that explained why when I watched him shagging fly balls (along with other outfielders like Rosario and Arcia), he only caught a minority that were hit in his direction. I watched with a small group (including Halsey and other Twins Daily readers who claim to be “lurkers”) and Patrick Reusse was mingling among the players as well.
As mentioned by Halsey, today was much colder (didn’t think I needed a coat and Halsey was kind enough to lend me an extra that he had along), and I didn’t see many position players (no Sano). Left too early to see our new DH with his hand iced.
Appreciate Halsey starting up with his reports again…I enjoy reading them and participating when I make it back across the “Alley”.

Didn't take Park long to figure out a method of avoiding the autograph hounds, did it?   ;)

Cabbage just got there on Tuesday this week. The others have been there for quite some time.

I enjoy these updates too. I have 5 weeks before I get to be there for a week.

Can you post which of the site owners will be out there and when in the ST thread?

OH MY!  LOl.  Ruesse showed up a little late the other day and the players were gone.  We stood around, a few of us bs'ing.  With nothing for him to do, he interviewed me, and it's in the strib today, along with a buddy of mine.  To funny!

Link?

Not just a blurb but a whole article!!

As for Tommy, he knows how to get a hold of me if he wants to talk.  Football pics aren't my ideal but still ANYONE can take video or pictures of the guys just playing around on the backfields.  The only thing I think of being an issue is possible CBA rules of "sanctioned" practices and workouts but still it was players playing around and having fun on their own down time.

Sidebar, not the first time I've had Twins personnel try telling me what I can and can not post on backfield observations.  In the past, I've been asked by front office personnel and coaching staff not to talk about certain prospects trying out at the facilities, take pictures of scorecards, record pitchers' side sessions, report about injuries, etc and I usually acquiesce.  The Twins try to keep a tight wrap of everything under their umbrella and definitely aren't used to much to any press on their facility especially backfields.

While in stark contrast, the team down the road, the Boston Red Sox, broadcast their players' pitch/fx stats (RPM, VEL, LOC) on the big screen for GCL & Instructs, allow full access to stat sheets, and absolutely relish in the spotlight of fandom.  So Tommy better have a good excuse for not wanting me to post pics of the kids having fun before the season starts.

Today Pressly showed up.  It was also the first day of batting practice on the fields, with Phil Roof throwing.  Sun's shining, a nice day for a change, in the 60's.

Last year Reusse wrote about Sano and Vargas sending Phil Roof BP pitches to places very far away. Let us know if there are any similar happenings this year.

Off topic, but I have no place else to ask, other than relatives.  Ain't going there ;)

What's the best TV package to get to see ALL Twins games.  I have Roku, so there are some apps out there and I have DirecTV, so there's Fox Sports North.  Also have access to MLB.com, but it looks like they only show out of market games.

I want it all:  Spring Training, home and away games.

If you are just talking about spring training, MLB.TV doesn't do any blackouts in spring training.  So then it's primarily just a question of, is anyone broadcasting a particular game?  I know they skip a few in spring training.

The Twins have their spring broadcast schedule up, with 12 games on Fox Sports, but not all other teams have that up yet.  Check the MLB.TV schedule closer to March 1 to see if enough games are broadcast to make a subscription worthwhile for you.

FYI, MLB.TV has a Roku app.

Thanks for the info.  The past couple years, I've watched Twins game via the MLB preview channel.  Sometimes 8 games on one screen.  Kinda hard to watch :-)

That's got to be a joke as the best hitter was A B Walker.  Today the ML pitchers used the pen in the stadium, and probably will from now on.  9 of them pitched to Tommy Watkins.  Only catcher here is Alex Swim.

What stood out with A B Walker from Plouffe and others? IYO
