Twins Minor League Report (5/24): Brent Rooker Jacks Two Dingers
Eric R Pleiss posted an article in Minors
Transactions Jake Cave optioned from Minnesota to Rochester. RED WINGS REPORT Rochester 2, Lehigh Valley 0 Box Score On back-to-back RBIs through the first five innings, the Rochester Red Wings scored the only runs of the night in the top of the sixth inning on a Kennys Vargas RBI double followed by a Brock Stassi RBI single. Overall the Wings were fairly hapless with men in scoring position, hitting just 2-for-12. Nick Gordon was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored, and continues to hit well since his AAA call-up. Stephen Gonsalves earned his fourth win of the year to move to 4-1 with five full innings of scoreless baseball. Gonsalves struck out five and walked four, throwing 54 of his 86 pitches for strikes. Tyler Duffey pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief, giving up just one hit, while walking and striking out two. Gabriel Moya earned his second save of the year retiring all four batters he faced in 1 1/3 innings. CHATTANOOGA CHATTER Montgomery 10, Chattanooga 6 Box Score Kohl Stewart ran into a buzzsaw, giving up six earned runs in just 1 1/3 innings, and the Montgomery Biscuits stayed hot even after Stewart was out of the game, scoring three more runs against Sam Clay in just an inning of work to take a 9-2 lead midway through the third inning. Tyler Jay gave the Lookouts 2 2/3 innings of scoreless one-hit baseball to put the team back on track, but the damage was already done. Ryan Eades gave up a run in two innings of work. And then Casey Crosby and Zack Jones each pitched a scoreless inning to close out the game. Despite scoring six runs, the Lookouts left nine men on base. Brent Rooker had a big day at the plate going 2-for-5 with a pair of home runs and three RBIs. Zandier Wiel had a three-hit night, going 3-for-5 with a double. Edgar Corcino had a home run as well, a solo shot. MIRACLE MATTERS Charlotte 1, Fort Myers 0 Box Score Fort Myers had just six hits and put only three men into scoring position on a night where they fell 1-0. Mitchell Kranson and Jaylin Davis each had a pair of hits, but the rest of the team managed only two more hits. The lack of run support squandered a solid start from Andro Cutura, who dropped to 2-1 with the loss despite seven innings of one run (unearned) ball. He gave up just three hits, walked two and struck out five. Kevin Marnon pitched the eighth, retiring all three batters he faced. KERNELS NUGGETS Kane County 3, Cedar Rapids 2 Box Score Cedar Rapids looked to steal a game on the road against Kane County, leading 2-0 after eight and a half innings but Kane County got to the Kernels bullpen for three runs in the bottom of the ninth, walking off on a single to right field. Starter Blayne Enlow gave the Kernels six innings of one-hit baseball. He struck out four and walked six. He was replaced by Calvin Faucher who added two more scoreless innings. Jared Finkel came on for the ninth with that two-run lead and gave up three runs on four hits before recording a single out. Despite the pitching woes, the Kernels should have scored more runs, going 0-for-9 with men in scoring position and stranding six base runners. Ben Rortvedt was the only hitter with more than one hit, and he had just two singles. The Kernels scored both of their runs on a two-run home run from Shane Carrier in the sixth inning.
