When a guy comes back from an injury, it’s a big deal. When a prospect comes back from two major surgeries, it is a really big deal. When a prospect who is capable of hitting 98 mph with a fastball returns after missing nearly two years, it is remarkable. When a prospect capable of hitting 98 returns and has what can only be called an incredible outing, it is very exciting. In the same game, one player knocked his first two home runs of the season. Two guys added their fourth homers of the season. And hey, Robbie Grossman debuted with the Twins and went 3-4 with a homer and three RBI.For much more on what happened on Friday in the Twins farm system, please continue. TRANSACTIONS It was a pretty quiet day on the transaction front on Friday with just one move announced. The Cedar Rapids Kernels added RHP Fernando Romero and sent Kuo Hua Lo to Extended Spring Training.RED WINGS REPORTRochester 1, Durham 4 Box Score This game was actually pushed forward a half-hour due to expected weather conditions later in the evening. The Red Wings scored one in the ninth inning, but that was it for them. They were facing Baseball America’s 2015 Minor League Player of the Year Blake Snell. The left-hander threw six shutout innings, allowing just three hits. He didn’t walk a batter and recorded ten strikeouts. Overall, the Red Wings had just five hits. Adam Brett Walker and James Beresford each had a single and a walk. Kennys Vargas had the lone extra-base hit, his sixth double. Logan Darnell started for the Red Wings. He was charged with four runs on ten hits over 5.1 innings. He didn’t walk any and struck out two. Buddy Boshers struck out four of the five batters he faced. Ryan O’Rourke had a walk and a hit allowed in his inning, but he did not give up a run. CHATTANOOGA CHATTER Chattanooga 3, Jackson 2 Box Score Nick Greenwood was back on the mound for the Lookouts and had another terrific start. He gave up two runs - both in the 6th inning - on six hits over seven innings. He walked one and struck out three. Trevor Hildenberger came on and recorded his third save. He walked two and struck out one over two innings. Offensively, Dalton Hicks continued to lead the way. The slugger went 2-4 with his fourth home run of the year. Joe Maloney added a two-run triple. Max Murphy went 2-3 with a walk in the game. Alex Real added his fourth homer. Chris Paul reached double-digits in doubles with his tenth. Randy Rosario went just 4.2 innings, though he wasn’t helped by his defense. He gave up six runs but just two were earned. Still, he gave up seven hits and walked four in his outing. He did strike out four as well. John Curtiss had his best Miracle outing to date. He struck out two in 2.1 perfect innings. Luke Bard came in and struck out five over two innings. He gave up two unearned runs on a hit and two walks. KERNELS NUGGETS Cedar Rapids 9, Quad Cities 0 Box Score Two years ago at about this time, I was driving down to Cedar Rapids, excited because I was going to get to see lefty Lewis Thorpe and right-hander Fernando Romero, two very exciting, young pitching prospects. While getting some gas, I looked on my phone and noticed that Romero had been placed on the disabled list with an elbow issue. By the time I got to Cedar Rapids, people were pretty clear that he would be out for awhile. In June, Romero had Tommy John surgery. While rehabbing, he had knee injury that required surgery and cost him time. Fast-forward to tonight. The hard-throwing right-hander came back in style. He threw five innings without giving up a run. He didn’t walk a batter and no, he didn’t give up a hit. He struck out four. He finished with 63 pitches. Anthony McIver came in and kept the no-hitter intact into the 7th inning. He struck out four over three scoreless innings. He gave up two hits. Michael Cederoth worked a scoreless ninth. The top five hitters in the Kernels order provided most of the offense. Leadoff man Luis Arraez went 2-3 with two walks and his seventh double. Daniel Kihle led the way. He hit his first two Midwest League home runs. He drove in six runs in the game. LaMonte Wade went 2-5 and stole his fourth base. AJ Murray went 2-5. Five-hitter Zander Wiel went 3-5 in the game. Cedar Rapids 5, Quad Cities 2 Kernels lead series 1-0 Box Score Cedar Rapids jumped to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Rafael Valera drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on Nick Gordon's second single of the game. Edgar Corcino flew out and Nick Gordon was doubled off first base, leaving Valera on second base with one out. T.J. White followed that up with a single, and an error advanced White to second while Valera remained on third. Alex Real followed with the third single of the inning and both Valera and White came around to score, White on a nifty slide that avoided the catcher's tag. He had to dive back from behind the plate to touch home safely to beat the tag by the catcher. After a Max Murphy pop out, the Kernels had the first lead of the series. Quad Cities came right back in the fourth to tie the game after stringing together three singles around two sacrifices. The 2-2 tie lasted only four batters. Nick Gordon hit a sacrifice fly to score Brian Navarreto, who had singled and advanced to third on a Rafael Valera double. Quad Cities avoided additional damage by getting Valera out at third base. The score would stay 3-2 until the Kernels were able to add an insurance run in the 6th inning with the aid of two wild pitches after Chris Paul singled to reach base. Cedar Rapids tacked on another run in the next frame when Nick Gordon doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by T.J. White and an error. Nick Gordon was the offensive star on Wednesday night. Four productive plate appearances, three that resulted in hits and a fourth that drove in a run. As good as Gordon was offensively, Felix Jorge might have been just as good on the mound. Jorge, after issuing a walk, exited the game to a roaring standing ovation with one out in the 8th. He had allowed nine hits, a walk and two runs while striking out seven. Luke Bard issued a walk to put two runners on, but escaped the eighth inning without damage. Nick Anderson faced the minimum in the ninth, earning the save with the help of a double play to seal the win. The opening victory was witnessed by 1,552. The Kernels will finish this quarterfinals series - one way or another - on the road as they travel to Quad Cities for Game 2 on Thursday night. Sam Gibbons will be on the mound for the 7pm CST game, looking to clinch the series. If needed, the deciding Game 3 will be played Friday night. Thursday also marks the beginning of the Southern League semifinals. The Chattanooga Lookouts will begin a best of five-game series with the Montgomery Biscuits. The first two games will be in Chattanooga with the series shifting to Montgomery for it's completion.

The Miracle couldn't grab an extra base hit on Thursday night, but nine singles and a pair of sacrifice flies put them in the driver's seat. Zach Granite was 2-4 with a run scored, as was Engelb Vielma who added in a stolen base for good measure. Anderlin Meija was 0-2 but he had both of the Fort Myers sacrifice flies, driving in a pair of runs. What a win for the Twins in comeback, walk-off fashion. The story in the minor leagues was the complete game shutout of Sam Gibbons. Very impressive. Also of note, Tyler Duffey leaving the game after just two innings. There may be more to come. All that and more can be found as you work your way through today’s minor league report. First, a little injury update. I ran into Trey Vavra at Target Field tonight. He was in a walking boot. He said that he met with Twins doctors a while ago and then had surgery. He'll be in the boot for another three weeks before heading off to Florida to begin rehab. He was clearly disappointed but remains very positive. Looking forward to just being able to play. However, his 2015 season, at least the minor league season, is done. RED WINGS REPORT Rochester 4, Syracuse 10 Box Score The Red Wings scored some runs, but unfortunately, this one got out of hand early. Not too early though. Tyler Duffey started. He gave up one run on three hits and a walk in two innings. He struck out five. However, it is intriguing that he left the game after just two innings and 36 pitches. I’m sure we’ll learn more soon. The Twins did not announce anything following their win. In Rochester, manager Mike Quade was "cryptic" to Rochester Democrat and Chronicle beat writer Kevin Oklobzija following the game. Speculation remains that he could be joining the Twins, but there has been nothing to confirm that at this time. Logan Darnell came on to replace Duffey. He gave up six runs on eight hits over three innings. Alex Meyer threw two scoreless innings with four strikeouts, but he left after loading the bases to start his third inning, the eighth. He thought he had a strikeout then and argued with the ump. Manager Mike Quade stood up for his pitcher and was ejected. Cole Johnson came on. He gave up two hits in that inning, allowing Meyer's three runners to score, but gave up no runs of his own over the final two innings. He struck out two. James Beresford went 3-4. Reynado Rodriguez went 2-4 with his 26th double. Xavier Avery was 1-17 in his first four games with the Red Wings. He was moved from the leadoff spot to sixth in the order. .He went 3-4. CHATTANOOGA CHATTER Chattanooga 1, Pensacola 8 Box Score The Lookouts had just one hit through seven innings and by then, they were already down big. David Hurlbut started. The lefty gave up five runs (four earned) on 11 hits in 4.2 innings. He walked one and struck out three. Alex Wimmers came on and went the next 1.1 innings. He gave up three runs on three hits. He walked two and struck out two. Adrian Salcedo returned from his 80-game suspension. He walked one in a scoreless inning. Jorge Polanco played his first game with the Lookouts since June 9. He drove in the team’s run on a single. He drove in Stephen Wickens who had walked. MIRACLE MATTERS Ft. Myers, Daytona Box Score This game was postponed by rain. The teams will try to play a doubleheader on Sunday. KERNELS NUGGETS Cedar Rapids 7, Kane County 0 Box Score The story in this game was the pitching performance of 21-year-old Australian right-hander Sam Gibbons. He went all nine innings and did not allow a run. You may call that a complete game shutout, if you like! In fact, he gave up just four hits, walked one and struck out a season-high nine batters. The outing increased his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 21.2 innings. Alex Real led the way. He went 2-4 with two doubles. He has seven on the year. Rafael Valera went 2-4. Tanner English hit his 16th double. Nick Gordon had a single and walked once. E-TOWN E-NOTES Elizabethton 12, Burlington 5 Box Score Terry Ryan is on his way to Elizabethton to check out the E-Twins. Hopefully he can see several games like this one. Dereck Rodriguez improved to 4-1 on the season. He gave up four runs, albeit just one was earned, though the error was his own, on four hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out seven. CK Irby pitched the final three innings to pick up his second save. He gave up one run on three hits. He struck out four. The Twins had 12 runs on 12 hits and five walks. Burlington also committed four errors to help. Jermaine Palacios continues to impress. After going 3-5 in his Appy League debut on Friday night, he went 3-5 again on Saturday. He added his first double. Chris Paul also went 3-5. Daniel Kihle went 2-3 with a walk and his second triple. GCL TWINS TAKES GCL Twins, GCL Red Sox Box Score Game postponed due to wet grounds. Twins Minor League Report (6/14): Rogers Dominates, Berrios Leaves Early
Seth Stohs posted an article in Minors
RED WINGS REPORT Rochester 2, Scranton/Wilkes Barre 1 Box Score Taylor Rogers has continued to move up the farm system at a steady pace. At each level, he has had a couple of clunkers, but for the most part, he has been very good for the Red Wings. On Sunday, he posted one of his best starts of the year. The southpaw went eight innings. He gave up one run on six hits. He walked none and struck out eight. He improved to 6-4 and reduced his ERA to 3.23. He needed just 92 pitches and 63 of them were strikes. AJ Achter came on for the ninth and retired the three batters he faced to record his tenth save of the season. The Red Wings needed that performance as the offense didn’t provide much support. They had just four hits in the game. The big hit came from Danny Ortiz in the fourth inning. He drove in two runs with his 17th double of the season. Argenis Diaz recorded his sixth double. CHATTANOOGA CHATTER Chattanooga 4, Birmingham 3 Box Score There was a scary moment in the bottom of the third inning. JO Berrios started for the Lookouts and had given up just one hit over three shutout innings. On the final out of that third inning, he took a liner to the shin. He made the play, but he left the game with a leg contusion. Reports following the game indicated that he was fine and wouldn’t miss any time. DJ Baxendale went to the mound and threw the next two innings. He gave up one run on one hit and two walks, though he did strike out five. Madison Boer gave up two unearned runs on two hits and two walks in 1.2 innings. He struck out two. Jake Reed got the next four outs in order. JT Chargois recorded his third save since his call up to Chattanooga. He struck out two in an inning. Mike Gonzales went 2-4, but Max Kepler had the big hit. Kepler went 1-2 with two walks and a two-run homer. It was his third homer of the year. Jorge Polanco led off and went 0-1, but he walked three times. Niko Goodrum made the start in center field for the Lookouts. MIRACLE MATTERS Ft. Myers 5, Bradenton 6 (11 innings) Box Score Yet another extra innings game for the Miracle, and this one unfortunately ended in a loss. Stephen Gonsalves had a rough one in his second FSL start. In just 3.2 innings, he gave up three runs on five hits. He walked three and struck out two. Before he left the game, he issued two straight bases-loaded walks. He was replaced by Matt Summers who gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits. He walked one and struck out one. Corey Williams came on and got the next seven outs without allowing a run. Todd Van Steensel struck out two over his two scoreless innings. Luke Westphal gave up a run on three hits in the bottom of the 11th to take the loss. Mitch Garver led the offense. He went 3-4 with his ninth double. Alex Swim went 2-5. Marcus Knecht’s tenth double drove in two runs. Bryan Haar added a double, his thirteenth. KERNELS NUGGETS Cedar Rapids 8, Lansing 3 Box Score Good things come in threes, right? Well, four Kernels hitters had three hits in this game to help the team to a nice win on Sunday afternoon. On Sunday, Byron Buxton made his major league debut, the goal of every single minor league player. There were a lot of strong hitting performances on the day, lots of three-hit games. A few of the Twins top pitching prospects were on the mound Sunday. Two of them didn’t get through the fourth inning, but one had a tremendous start. To find out who performed well, you’ll just have to keep reading.RED WINGS REPORT Rochester 2, Scranton/Wilkes Barre 1 Box Score Taylor Rogers has continued to move up the farm system at a steady pace.
