  1. I think a team saying they don’t want the distraction of negotiating midseason is bunk. It’s usually the team’s way of saying they don’t want player X back. I know it’s quite awhile ago now, but at least one of Brad Radke’s contracts was extended midseason. I seem to recall Tom Prince too. I could be thinking someone else. My point being, if the team truly wants a player, they will make what they feel is a fair offer no matter when it is. If the player chooses not to respond, that is their business.
  2. That shouldn’t be difficult. I’d say they need 7 better than Rodney.
  3. If the FO was interested in winning last night (and by extension, the rest of 2018) they wouldn’t have traded those players in the first place.
  4. The first 15 pounds come off easy for pretty much everyone. Beyond that is where hard work and discipline come in to play.
  5. Max Scherzer is 34. Justin Verlander is 35. Both are top ten bWAR for pitchers in 2018. Pitchers don’t lose it as fast as position players. This is well known. Especially guys that aren’t overly reliant on velocity. Gibson can easily maintain his effectiveness for 4-5 more years.
  6. There absolutely is a point to releasing him. To give someone else the at bats. Vargas if anyone still thinks he can be helpful or more likely Lamonte Wade.
  7. If you do that, you are throwing up the white flag for at least 2-4 years. I’m not sure the FO is prepared to do that. Indeed, every move this FO has made seems to be very short term focused. At least those involving MLB players.
  8. According to fangraphs, if he gets 3-4 WAR he should get $ 24 - $ 32 mil per year... Because their methodology is sooooo accurate it’s beyond scrutiny. Or not.
  9. The Twins could easily trade Dozier, Rodney and/or Duke before Wednesday. I certainly wouldn’t presume Belisle is gone. This FO signed him to a guaranteed MLB contract when no other team would TWICE.
  10. I think you underestimate the common fan. I’m pretty sure most know Dozier likely won’t be around come August 1. If he’s still around on the 30th, I suspect he’ll get more than the usual applause. I suspect he got that on the homestand going into the break as well.
  11. It’s baffling to me that this team carries 8 or even 9 relievers when, by usage, it is obvious they only need 7.
  12. No one knows how barren the farm is because this FO isn’t giving the guys on the farm an opportunity to play.
  13. I suspect part of the Taylor Motter transaction was to make room for Sano on Rochester’s roster as well. Although, to say minor league rosters are flexible compared with the ones at the MLB level is a big understatement.
  14. Can we please stop using the fangraphs “values”? They are so out of whack with reality it’s absurd. Dozier’s worth since 2015 is $124.7 mil? That’s $31 mil per year. Clayton Kershaw money. Stop. Just stop. They are worthless.
  15. Yep, Riverbrian 100%. Every at bat Logan Morrison gets from here on is one someone else should havd gotten. Vargas or Wade. Pick one. Let him play the rest of the year. See what happens.
  16. Serious question: do statcast projections take shifts into account? Because, if they don’t they would seem pretty meaningless and would explain a lot of “underperformance”. But how can they, because not every team shifts player X exactly the same way?
  17. I think anyone who sees this team as a contender is dreaming. The Twins have been below .500 since April 23, when they dropped to 8-9. They have been at least 5 games under at the end of everyday since May 26, when they dropped to 21-26. Harmon Killebrew and Kirby Puckett ain’t walking through the clubhouse door gang. Bad players. Bad performances. Bad managing. Bad decisions at the top. Blow it up.
  18. If the FO goes into 2019 assuming Sano is their everyday third baseman without a viable plan B that would be - well, exactly what the saying is for when one assumes something. He has yet to play even 85 games at third in a season. To expect him to all of a sudden play 130-140 would be foolish to say the least. And let’s not forget, when he plays third, he does so very poorly.
  19. Why be pessimistic? If that’s how it works out the Twins can flip anyone they sign or extend when the best opportunity arises. What is the rush to get any deal possible? The trade deadline creates an artificial sense of urgency that typically results in a depressed market for sellers because there are invariably more sellers than serious buyers. The only times a seller would have an edge is if they hold an elite asset that several teams want, a situation that doesn’t apply to the Twins.
  20. The Twins won’t need a 5th starter until the 24th. So, I would say maybe a position player or a reliever will be added until thst date. No idea who. The only healthy position players on the 40 man not active are Sano, Motter and Granite.
  21. Regarding Magill, I think it is important to note that he is typically coming in to games where the opponent has scored a lot of runs and a lot of people are having good days at the plate. I have no illusions about Magill being a key contributor in high leverage situations, but I do think he’s a better pitcher than Belisle and I definitely think having both is unnecesary.
  22. Still waiting for you to name them. Mauer ranks 26 th in MLB in innings at first base with 394. 27th is Logan Morrison. Five first basemen have over 800. How different would this season be if instead of two below average first basemen they had one good one?
