  1. Three different Twins relievers have thrown 40 plus pitches (and a 4th with 37) since the last time Trevor May threw 1. Different names. Same idiotic usage.
  2. idk, the presumed reason to shut a pitcher down is to prevent injury, right? Pretty much everyone in this thread has said that is definitely part of the reason to shut Byron down.
  3. It appears Reed is the forgotten man now. MOY is aware he is under contract for 2019, right? Might it not make some sense to get him into some games to see if he is capable of helping at all?
  4. Call him up when there only enough days left in the season to get that extra year of control. There’s no rule that says call ups have to be on Sept 1 or on the day the minor league season ends. Win win. Twins get the extra year. Buxton gets a handful of AB against MLB pitching.
  5. That Gibson has 200 IP at AAA at age 23 compared with 45 for Stewart says a lot too. It means he hasn’t been able master AA.
  6. What you call a “pointless technicality” I call a clear sign of a bad team. Good teams don’t spend basically the entire season under .500. The Twins have been under .500 since mid April. To stay. Sure, you are entitled to your opinion about what the Twins should have done at the deadline. I’m certainly glad you aren’t the guy making that decision. But, I highly doubt the ones who did regret “selling” as much as they did. Remaining vets are upset about it? Too bad. Perform better.
  7. How many of those comebacks featured teams that were below .500 as far back as mid April? I’ll wager few, if any. Teams that spend 3 months below .500 aren’t good. Period.
  8. Are they though? Addison Reed was guaranteed 4 times the money that Fernando Rodney was. Even Duke was guaranteed $ 2 mil to Rodney’s $4 mil and change. He’s just a loogy. Maybe, just maybe, the market is catching on to what kind of relievers are truly valuable.
  9. I think Stewart’s future is in the bullpen. I doubt he ever gets to the point of being able to navigate a lineup more than once or twice. Tigers were 2 for 9 first time through. 4 for 8 with HBP second time. 2 for 2 with BB third time.
  10. Not surprisingly, Stewart ran in to trouble when the lineup flipped over a third time. I doubt he ever has success getting through a MLB lineup 3 times. His line first two times through: 4 1/3 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 1 K Third time: 0 outs, 2 H, 3 R, 1 BB It’s even worth noting the difference between first and second time: 2 for 9 first time. 4 for 8 with HBP second time.
  11. May is probably better used putting fires out mid inning than 3 runs up with no one on. I also don’t know if he is up to the workload of a closer (sometimes 2-3 days in a row). Does anyone really think it won’t be Matt Belisle in the 9th in 9 days? Until then, idk. Hildenberger I guess. Maybe matchups.
  12. And even if they did have guys at AAA that could replace him for less (an opinion I strongly disagree with), they definitely don’t have four. One, MAYBE two that MIGHT SOMEDAY be better.
  13. Actually, I believe he threw out a batting tee. It was a game in Cleveland. Mike Fichter was the ump. He was terrible. Joe Mays was the Twins pitcher. Even the Indians’ pitcher Chuck Finley said something like “he (Fichter) missed some for me too. He missed more for Joe, but he was pretty tight tonight.” And there was no fine after those comments. In other words, MLB acknowledged he was right. It was Fichter’s first year as a regular ump at the MLB level and I don’t think he lasted 5. He was one of the guys hired after the union’s strategy of mass resignation failed miserably.
  14. The Twins haven’t won a playoff game in 16 years. If rebuilding takes that long, you’re doing something wrong. What indications are there that this FO is committed to rebuilding? If, as you say, the Twins won’t be on the upswing for two more years, why wouldn’t they have traded Kyle Gibson - who possibly could have brought in a blue chip prospect to build around? Why are Matt Belisle, Fernando Rodney, Logan Morrison, Logan Forsythe, Jake Odorizzi and Robbie Grossman still rostered and playing (until injury sidelined some of them)? None of them figure to be around in 2020. Rebuilding to me (and to most) means tearing it all down and starting at square one. There is zero indication that this FO is committed to that nor has there been since they were hired. Indeed, their plan seems to be to tread water and be satisfied being borderline competitive in a weak division.
  15. A guy I would love to see as the next manager of the Twins: Tom Prince. I still remember YEARS ago when Kyle Lohse was a largely enigmatic suspect. There was a game he pitched and was all over the place but was getting away with it. When the Twins were hitting in like the second inning there were several TV shots of Prince right in Kyle’s face for a solid 2-3 minutes. As I recall, the result was 5 near perfect innings after that. THAT is EXACTLY the kind of guy the Twins need. A TEACHER.
  16. Because MOY is who he is. Also, Hildenberger has made ten appearances since July 20, a span of 18 days. One of which was an off day. So, that’s 10 appearances in 17 team games.
  17. I don’t know if I love the idea of Garver pitching. I’m old enough to remember Jose Canseco pitching once and how it destroyed what was once a very good throwing arm. The Twins are carrying 8 relievers. Use them. That’s what they are paid for. Did Garver ask to pitch? Probably. That doesn’t mean Molitor has to say yes. It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt doing it. Then someone gets fired.
  18. Most of the guys we are talking about bringing up aren’t young. Most of the relievers that posters want looked at the MLB level are 25 or older.
  19. He gave up two hits and a walk. If Merrifield doesn’t try to steal - something Rodney had no control over - odds are he coughs up the lead.
