Article: The Scouting Skinny: Brendan McKay
NE Gopher replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Who are we as fans to scoff at the idea of drafting a pitcher who has #3 starter as his floor? How many of those types of pitchers do we have in our system right now? I have to admit, I'm afraid that if we don't take Greene we will be missing out on a superstar. My concern is if he can make it to the show in 2-3 years to be an asset to the current young core? Sounds like McKay could be. -

Who other than Sano can the Twins reasonably build around? Pay the man.

How is Berrios's command? Are his Ks inflated and walks suppressed due to AAA hitters swinging at pitches guys in the show would lay off of? His problem in the bigs was control, not stuff. With Mejia not taking advantage of his opportunity, I'm hoping that Berrios is ready to join the big club for good.

Article: Twins Blunder Polanco's Development
NE Gopher replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Maybe there was more of a focus on trading Dozier than we were aware of and a good deal never materialized. That or other clubs knew we had been grooming Polanco for 2B and called our bluff with low ball offers? Is there any precedence for a similar move working for another player at the MLB level? I'm no where near the historian others on this site are but the only move that comes to mind is Biggio moving from catcher to 2B. If Polanco's issues are his arm strength and lack of range, how is this going to improve with more time at the position? Yes, his footwork and positiong should improve and that will help, but his deficiencies will still be the limiting factor IMO. Remember, it was already pointed out that his fielding percentage at short was better at the MLB level than it was in the minors. However, even this improvement left him in the subpar category when compared to his peers. Polanco is a man without a position until Dozier is no longer on the team. Why isn't he a candidate to be our utility man/bench bat? Is he better for the lineup at SS than Escobar would be? -

What's more important to the Teins in the next few years? Another starting pitcher that projects as a mid rotation starter or one the projects as a very high caliber reliever? If we can get a lock down bullpen developed, that is a very good thing. I'm afraid that the Teins are trying to fit a square peg in a round hole because they are desperate for quality starting pitching. I find it very telling that they look at a guy like Trevor May and think bullpen and look at Tyler Jay and think starter. -

Agreed Tarheeltwinsfan Falvey and Levine had to establish themselves as a front office that won't be suckered or swindled. -
Article: Twins Request Final Offers For Dozier
NE Gopher replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't see how a deadline gets the Dodgers to move off their offer for a Dozier for De Leon 1 for 1 swap. They don't seem to want him bad enough to have offered more than this since the winter meetings. This is not a fair return for Dozier but they are trying to see how desperate we are for pitching because they know he is the only trade chip we would really consider moving that would get a good return. Dozier is not getting traded and the Dodgers will move on to Kinsler with either the same offer or less IMO- 146 replies

I wonder if both sides would accept De Leon and Alvarez for Dozier? Maybe take Kazmir off their hand for a lower level prospect? -
Article: Haley Trade Carries Shades Of Old And New
NE Gopher replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Maybe they invision Haley having good success with catching that is adept at pitch framing? Tommy Malone isn't overpowering by any means but he had some success as a back end starter. -

Anybody else feel like Ralphie on Christmas looking for his Red Rider BB gun under the tree? I'm hoping that Levine/Falvey have it hidden in the corner too.- 15 replies

I will actually be very disappointed if we don't move Dozier. We need pitching and he is our most valuable commodity- 120 replies

Jaimedude2 You would give up our best pitching prospect, a possible starting LF and our best position player for an Ace with only two years of team control? What do you do when Sale walks in 2 years for more money and a team that is more competitive? BTW, with that trade you just strengthened one of our chief competitors.- 70 replies

Can anyone argue that Cuddyer, Hawkins, and Hunter don't have a wealth of experience at the Major league level and a desire to work in the new front office to make this team competitive again? If not, why are we nitpicking the hires?

Article: Dozier Trade Talk Heating Up?
NE Gopher replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Pitching, pitching and more pitching should be the return. My guess is our new leadership will do everything possible to avoid the appearance of getting the short end of any deal so I doubt that they would accept a Urias for Dozier straight up swap. I would. And that's why it's good that I am no where near a front office of any MLB team -
Article: How Much Can The Twins Spend On A Catcher?
NE Gopher replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Is Jason Castro going to be a building block going forward? Don't we need more of a stop gap until someone like Garver or Murphy is ready? 10 million a year for three years sounds a little high priced. Heck, where's Drew Butera at? At least he can play some defense.
