  1. Excited to see Kennys Vargas get full time ABs for the rest of the season. I really believe he could be a player after his reality checks in the minors.
  2. Agree...but if you aren't winning, then hope also creates interest. Hope as in the team has a plan. Hope as in the team is building a strong farm team and some exciting young players are on the way or are getting playing time in the bigs. The worse thing is a stale team with no hope.
  3. That's why you play him full time, so the small sample size becomes a larger sample size. ...and how many hitters can succeed playing every 4th game? Yes Vargas has struggled recently but what else can you expect? Not only physically trying to keep your timing but what about mentally? You make a choice to work on your hitting by being more patient and taking a few pitches ...and it's working. You are getting on base way more often and pitchers are learning they have to throw you strikes. They can't get you out anymore by throwing pitches into the dirt. Result? Better BA/OBP and you are still hitting HRs. You show up to game 1 of a double header and hit 2 HRs ! ...and you are rewarded with a spot on the bench game 2 ...and the next 3 games. Talk about messing with a guys head.
  4. A team in a playoff hunt can't afford to experiment by giving young guys with potential more playing time.
  5. Check out Mike Zunino of the Mariners. Pretty much the same scenario. Rushed to the majors because he was the 3rd overall pick.. Hit some HRs but was clueless at the plate....as bad or worse than Buxton. So the Mariners sent him back to the minors. Fine tuned his swing and worked on his confidence. Got called up a little while ago and is a completely different hitter. Takes a walk and isn't trying to hit a HR every AB. How you develop a player, how you judge a player and how quickly you promote a player should never be based on where in the draft he was picked. That is foolishness.
  6. Exactly ....and it's not as if this bad decision was a one off. It's time for a complete overall.
  7. Baltimore had a 26 year old pitcher that rocked a 6.20 ERA with the big club. Also split time in AAA. The following year split time between AAA and 2 MLB teams. As a 28 year old was sent down to A+ and AA before finally settling in with his new team, the Chicago Cubs. The odds are Meyer won't become anything. To say for sure that he won't ? Well you can't, because you don't know. He has always been an intriguing prospect. There was no reason not to wait it out a couple of more years. He is cheap, and isn't blocking anyone.
  8. I'm sure Boston would help the Twins out and take Vargas off their hands. He could replace another ex Twin who is retiring. Full time DH spot wide open for him. I am not really a betting man, but in this situation I would bet a good chunk of cash that Vargas would succeed big time in Boston.
  9. Mentor ? Although I guess when you are battling for a playoff spot why wouldn't you bring in an older player who can't field or hit.
