  1. I think it's way too early to be praising Lewis for his versatility. As others have said too, I don't think Gordon is comparable to Lewis. Other than the internet decided that Lewis could be a superutility player for a year while waiting for SS to open. And then Lewis got hurt, immediately, while playingan unfamiliar position. Gordon's role is closer to what Marwin or Adrianza served.
  2. If so, I think it's brilliant. For every dumb new rule, teams find ways to strategize around them.
  3. Who is the worst "first inning pitcher" in memory? For me, I always worried on Radke's starts. When he was off, he was really off.
  4. I'm pretty sure it does not count toward the 15 days rule.
  5. As others have said, he's not on the 40-roster, so shy of a player going on the 60-day IL, I don't see him in the bigs this year.
  6. FWIW, I appreciate a trade proposal that offers too much value for once, instead of trading the Duffey, Duensing, Gordon and maybe Happ.
  7. If you meant "Something along the lines of Trevor Larnach, Austin Martin, Josh Winder OR Jordan Balazovic could start the conversation and get the Diamondbacks interested in a potential deal with the Twins," I might entertain this offer. But, given the UCL, probably still not.
  8. If Cruz can thrive in a part-time role it's worth exploring. DH has room to improve but I also think Cruz is a shell of what he was 2 years ago. And, given the Twins' lack of position player depth on the bench, the real question would be how much is a PH/DH worth if it means one less fielder or reliever. I'd see more of a fit under the old "waiver wire" rules where he'd join the team closer to roster expansion.
  9. Pro sports are fascinating. We're fine with an employer literally trading or demoting employees to different organizations and locations, but if they make their own career decisions we get upset.
  10. Weird. But the good coaches always leave. That's how it works. Trying to stay positive on this one. That, and I know nothing about collegiate baseball.
  11. Disagree, but I think arguing semantics about the definition of a blowout is silly. Bringing in a position player in this scenario is akin to a forfeit. The Dodgers were not trying to win at this point. That is how I would personally define a blowout.
  12. I wonder if DH or backup catcher might be a deadline acquisition. Put Sanchez at C1, send Jeffers to AAA to find his bat. Get a quality C2. That would free DH for others. It's probably really a question as to what the FO thinks of Jeffers' defense right now and it overshadows some of his struggles. Because to ironically reference the concept of this whole discussion, I do think Jeffers is the kind of prospect who needs daily/regular AB.
  13. I think the real debate here is: Is Miranda a top prospect or an "average" prospect? The OP, for example, compares Miranda to Lewis. I do not see Miranda at that level.
  14. Alternate take: Miranda is performing better of late because the Twins are putting him in a position to succeed instead of just throwing him out there every day. As others have stated, he plays far more than 1-2 times per week. He'll get his chances. If he excels he'll play more.
  15. This only happens in blowouts. Which are boring and unwatchable well before they've brought in the position player to pitch.
  16. Such a silly rule. The only thing it affects, game-wise, is more rules. Teams will continue to run the AAA shuttle just as before. If anything, there is less job stability for pitchers through this rule. If a team wants a 3 person bench, that's their problem. Essentially the same position I take on the shift. Why not limit how many catchers a team carries too? Or DHs? Yes, Ohtani is great. But what makes a "legit" 2-say player? Matt Davidson? And why should some players get different rules than others?
