  1. There are only 64(?) Power 5 teams, so a ranking in the low 30s would be about average. 54th means they're behind a number of Group of Five schools. Not good.
  2. That's why the "uncatchable ball" portion of the rule exists, to give the defense a break in the case of a bad throw. But that last pass was catchable if the DB doesn't run the receiver off of the ball. Smith even got a hand on it in spite of heavy contact that began a full five yards upfield. The receiver was making a play for the ball, the DB was not. The officials can't presume to know where the ball is supposed to be thrown.
  3. Leidner has been very good since the Purdue game last year. He's been very good at the end of close games throughout his career, today excluded obviously. Many Badger fans hated Stave. Iowa fans whine about Beathard, and before him Rudock and Vandenberg and Stanzi...all good QBs. Plenty of Gopher fans found fault with Weber, Gray, Sauter, Cockerham, Abdul-Khaliq and Cupito as seniors, and all of them were better than average. Good college QBs still make a lot of mistakes and have bad games. If you think he's not above average, your expectations are too high.
  4. Green is the one they're redshirting, which is smart. Croft has slipped down the depth chart under Rhoda presumably for football reasons. He's not going to save this season because he's simply not good enough to do it. Leidner is the best QB on the roster by a pretty comfortable margin. He's an above-average P5 conference QB, which means he'll still have some ugly games.
  5. How in the world is that not DPI?
  6. I loved the first season of Briadchurch. It was fantastic at stirring up a wide array of emotions. S2 immediately struck me as a trainwreck and we gave up after 3 episodes. Would you say that was too soon? Speaking of Brit TV, as far as I can tell nobody has mentioned Peaky Blinders at TD. Not truly great, but very good, really fun and a perfect fit for the TD demo. Tom Hardy has a recurring role and kills it. I randomly think about that show more than any other. (Netflix)
  7. I don't know what's more astonishing...the fact that the Twins managed to trade-string Drew Butera into a top 100 prospect, or the fact that Butera is still in the bigs and hitting .308 /.366 /.538. Antony nailed the twin pillars of trading: Trade from depth, and trade the sudden overachiever. Well done.
  8. That O-line is horrible, and the injuries aren't much of an excuse when your 2nd and 3rd stringers should still outclass the opponent. At least the defense dominated Kent St, as it should. I think the Gophers might beat that team most of the time if they were only allowed to punt or try a FG on 1st down.
  9. Fun fact: In the last game he ever started, he gave up home runs to Matt LeCroy and some rookie #8 hitter named Morneau.
  10. Per Cot's: If a player’s optional assignment(s) to the minors total less than 20 days in one season, an option is not used. I Think we'll see Buxton again in 19 days or so, after he's done paying for Perkins and Dozier's all-star bonuses.
  11. The last time that Perkins faced Rodriguez, he was a starter and the Twins played in the Metrodome. Those stats are meaningless.
