    Bingo. Unless the top end pitcher accepts a 1 year deal, or well below market value, we’re wasting our time and energy thinking it might happen. It’s crystal clear there is an organizational philosophy in place to not spend top dollar for pitching. There are still some open avenues to explore… We’ll see who is non-tendered tomorrow (Matthew Boyd is already named as a non-tender) and the trade market.

    I concur. Seager was my pipe dream signing for the Twins but 10 years is pretty crazy. Texas is living like it’s the early 2000s again trying to buy a decent roster.

    Echoing others here. Not sure I would lock in all 6 bullpen arms. Falvey and Levine need to think ahead and assume there will be some surprise non-tenders around the league that will be worth pursuing.

    I hope we see a couple more signings before the lockout to end on a positive note. Because very soon all fans will have to read for baseball news is the lockout. I don’t expect much progress to be made on that front until March. It’s going to be a long winter…

    I guess we’re going to have to change the script to “What would the Rays do”. They sign generational players to long term deals now.

    It’s possible, but unlikely one of Winder, Vallimont, or Sands surprises and makes the opening day roster. As things stand today, Miranda has more opportunity to make the roster as a utility player. Maybe they’ll clear the path more for him if they trade Arraez, Polanco, or Donaldson.

    Sorry, I don’t see the fit anymore. I’ll look back fondly on his tenure here. He is the best free agent signing Falvey and Levine have made. But all good things come to an end. If he ever wants to get into coaching after his playing days are over, I hope he considers the Twins.

    If we somehow end up trading Berrios and Buxton within a calendar year of each other, I’m going to have to take some time to see if I really want to prioritize the Twins and MLB in my free time. The pain is going to be too much to handle. The FO created 2 self-inflicting, horribly managed situations. There’s still time to right this ship before it’s too late and a trade occurs

    Strange that they wouldn’t have an option year tacked on since they’re paying the 2nd round pick as well.

    The Twins like a certain profile of pitcher, that’s for sure. Someone with an elite pitch and increase the usage (Wisler, Clippard, Hill, Minaya, etc) as well as tweak the location of their fastball to be up in the zone. That’s why I’m particularly fond of signing Jon Gray this offseason. His slider is elite, with a mid 90s fastball to go with it. If he ditched the 3rd pitch, increased usage of the slider, and tweaked his FB location, he could be a really solid value.

    You’re young and able to chase your dreams. Good luck to you! I only hope Dave St Peter made it clear his unique rise is one in a million, not the norm. Another bullet point I would add is have a nest egg and support. Because as @chpettit19mentioned, you will start working crazy hours for pennies. If you’re not already working for one of the St. John’s sports teams, do it now. Get the experience, and network like crazy. Maybe you’ll crack into it unlike myself, and tens of thousands of kids who graduate with a sports management type degree.

    All sounds good in theory. But there’s the human element to consider. Will players be okay with not having defined roles on the staff? Another consideration is, unless things change this winter, arbitration raises are tied to certain stats like starts, saves, etc. Being a piggy back middle reliever doesn’t pay the big bucks, as we’ve seen with Duffey’s salary remaining a modest 2-2.5 million. Compared to John Gant, who made 21 starts and priced him out of a job.

    I am with you on Sands. I think he’s a prospect who will surprise like Ober did in 2021. He doesn’t walk a lot of people, strikes people out at a solid clip, and keeps the ball in the field of play. That should translate well to the majors when he gets his opportunity.

    Trading for Segura isn’t my first choice, but calling it the worst idea you have seen is over the top and rude, don’t you think? Just because you can’t see a way to contending doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Did you predict a World Series championship in the winter of 86 and 90?

    It’s possible that Kershaw is still really good with a load management approach like Bailey Ober. It doesn’t look like his body will hold up for a 175 inning workload anymore. It’s also possible he ends up like Felix Hernandez, and falls off a cliff because all of the bullets are used in his arm. Too risky of an endeavor for the Twins. I’d rather take the chance on Verlander, but I don’t know why he would want to come here.
