TR seemed like a great communicator with everyone except the players. Maybe Buxton and Sano, but you never hear players talk about any form of communication with the FO staff. General Managers, Assistant General Managers, etc. - How well does management really know their players / prospects? How do you groom what you don't attempt to know about? All FO media quotes seem to come after a falling out conversations with players and never proactive conversations (from management)? I hope new management finds it important to know their players and not just maneuver players. Hicks, Buxton, Rosario, Vargas, Berrios, were treated like yo yo's during their career. Not one had strong responses as to why they were demoted or what they were told in regards to demotions. "Yeah - I was told ............."

Article: Which Hitter Will The Twins Call Up?
ExpectMorePayLess replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If you need an insignificant bat (during this stretch) on the bench, why not put a game changer on the bench instead of your typical better than average OBP or single hitting option. A guy who can get to 1st base isn't going to help this Twins team score more runs. They need to be able to replace a Suszuki or Murphy or Santana late in the game with runners on and down by 2 or 3 - with a player who can actually change the game. Nothing to lose by bringing up Walker for this purpose alone. I assure you that any other option you choose will be a reach as well and add very little impact at this point. Why not a guy who averages a HR or Double every 9 AB in 5 minor league seasons? Why not a guy who averages an RBI every 5 AB in 5 minor league seasons? The season is young, but Walker already has more XBH's in 10 games than the Twins had all last season with their pinch hitters. My obvious short term filler.- 52 replies

This non typical Adam Brett Walker game works too. Lol This Rochester line up has a great combination of vets and youngsters, but why is Beresford batting 7th (International League All Star in 2015 / 2nd in IL in batting) and why is Walker still batting in back of line up (@ 6th) after leading organization in run production over the last 4 seasons? He topped his AFL team in run production in the Fall and hit 7th there too so it must be something. Mauer was the only coach to bat him in the heart of the order and he dropped K rate to 20%. I am not making this an ABW thread, but just curious? No more comments from this threader on topic. [Agreed - Good stuff Steve]

Article: Sano and the Strikeout
ExpectMorePayLess replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Unjustified response on my part. I agree with a lot of what you said in regards to how the game has changed. Especially how the strikeouts matter based on production results. [200 & 50 is more acceptable than 200 & 18]. Hell - I've been crying about ABW for the last couple of years. Crazy strikeouts and crazy production. One could view his pros as seemingly outweighing his cons in terms of team success (Championships / Winning in general). The continued question with ABW is - Can he continue to do it at the MLB level? Based on Sano's increased (K rate), the answer would be No. Based on Sano's success in production (HRs/RBI/Runs), the answer could be Yes. ABW had much better production numbers than Sano last year at the time of Sano's promotion. Based on the Twins views and actions - Strikeouts matter more than production. IMO. Not arguing their stance - Just saying that the Twins seem to have drawn their line in the sand. This is acceptable .................... and This is not..................... I wish I knew the "key guide" for acceptable strikeouts vs production. I'm sure everyone has their own acceptable rate.- 50 replies

Article: Sano and the Strikeout
ExpectMorePayLess replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Nobody will care if he leads the league in strikeouts if he produces at the rate he did last year. Just like Mike Trout won his MVP in a year in which he also lead the league in strikeouts. HRs and RBI and Runs Scored Sano might not be an MVP if he leads the league in K's because he doesn't have Trout like defensive skills, but he will at least be a candidate if he continues to do damage with that bat. If the Twins lose, this will become an issue. If Twins win everybody will be saying "what strikeout" Funny business - One day everyone marvels over his ability to take a BB and the next everyone is worried about K potential.- 50 replies

They may not play until mid April with the extended weather forecast in the region. Why do teams play night games in the north. The temperatures have to drop significantly in the evening. Who cares if there are fans at the game (night), if you can't feel your fingers. 50+ degrees in the day for some of the April temperatures, but always in the 30's at night. Sucks for them - Lol Not scheduled to reach 70 until mid May. Wow

Agreed. I bet if you ask Kepler, he believes he's as good as anyone in the Twins outfield - including Sano. I bet he believes his skill set is more complete (5 toolish). He won't be happy staying in AAA waiting for an injury. I'm also sure Twins don't care about feelings. They have to protect their small market views and hold on to in house talent as long as they can.

The Only Prospect in System to EARN: *Mid Season All Star (respective leagues) - 2013 / 2014 / 2015 *Post Season All Star (respective leagues) - 2013 / 2014 / 2015 *Organizational All Star (Twins) - 2013 / 2014 / 2015 *League Leader in (TB / XBH / HRs / RBI) - 2013 / 2014 - 2015 NOT JUST A HOME RUN THREAT *4 Championships in 4 Years - 2012 - 2014 - 2015 (AA) - 2015 (AFL) Still several posters are non believers and thus he is worthy as my Breakout Prospect. ABW II For the record - He ranked 18th in his league in strikeouts (20% rate) in 2013. He has not led the league in strikeouts every year of his professional career. That just shows me that he is capable. He has been below league average for age at every level despite going to college. 2nd youngest college player in draft 2012 (4 year school).

Finding 2016's Twins Breakout Prospect

Article: Power On Deck?
ExpectMorePayLess replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Dozier - MLB (2015) GP - 157 AB - 628 Runs - 101 Hits - 148 2B - 39 3B - 4 HR - 28 Rbi - 77 BB - 61 SO - 148 SB - 12 CS - 4 BA - .236 OBP - .307 SLG - .444 OPS - .751 Walker - MiLB + AFL (2015) GP - 153 AB - 577 Runs - 86 Hits - 138 2B - 33 3B - 4 HR - 36 Rbi - 124 BB - 59 SO - 230 SB - 14 CS - 4 BA - .240 OBP - .314 SLG - .496 OPS - .811 Now Consider this: Somehow Dozier / Sano / Vargas / Arcia / and Santana had better success in the MLB their Rookie seasons, compared to their last season in minor league ball prior to debut. Walker will be that Power guy this season as a rookie. Better success at the MLB level in 2016.- 28 replies

Article: A Look At The Latest Twins Signings
ExpectMorePayLess replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
2012 Rookie League - Champions 2013 Low A - Best Overall Record in the Minor Leagues 2014 High A - Champions (1st ever) 2015 AA - Champions (1st ever) 2016 AAA - Don't stop the machine with FA minor league signings Why does no one talk about prospect morale? Let these band of brothers continue their quest for championships together. Don't overstock the AAA team with Free Agents. You can always send guys down like they did from / to AA last year (Burdi / Reed / Vargas). Those players were resilient throughout and flourished when called upon in AA championship. -
Article: The Future Is Upon Us
ExpectMorePayLess replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree with the article: When 55% of your hits are of the Extra Base Hit variety - people usually stop thinking about your batting average and OBP. "Because an out is an out and production is production - The game is about wins and scoring more than your opponent" Why walk and steal second when I can jog into second or jog home most of the time? Lol That's why Dozier is a league leader in runs scored every year. He puts himself in scoring position 54% of the time! 24 HR / 74 RBI / 52 Runs / 46 XBH (not all homers) / 83 games - The Future is Upon Us- 27 replies

I would love to know your top of the head thoughts as far as grades are concerned. A list of the team roster and a grade and quick note next to each. EXAMPLE: Byron Buxton - B - Needs to stay healthy and get better with off speed stuff. SOME NOTES DON'T HAVE TO BE THAT LONG

From listening to the Lookout games (radio) over the last month - most of Walkers home runs seem to have been on Off Speed pitches. That's an improvement in the right direction. http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?content_id=205006983&sid=t498 Off Speed Pitch

Most XBH in System 2B - 3B - HR 15 - 02 - 16 Walker (33) 18 - 03 - 11 Dozier (32) 07 - 12 - 06 Buxton (25) 16 - 02 - 07 Ortiz (25) 17 - 04 - 02 Kepler (23) 10 - 02 - 09 Plouffe (21) 15 - 02 - 03 Harrison (20) Just shows he does more than just hit HRs. It is often said that a guy with 2B power can or will turn into HR power as they get older and stronger. What does that mean for a guy who shows 2B and HR power?

From an article in Star Tribune “He’s striking out the same as he did last year but they look so much better, if that’s possible,” Mientkiewicz said. “He’s my most improved hitter in the lineup.” Mientkiewicz admits he was “worried” about Walker facing Class AA pitching initially because of the way he looked striking out last season. “The strikeouts alarmed you,” he said. “They were so non-competitive at times.” Walker is batting .261 this season. He leads the league in RBI (46) and is second in slugging percentage (.573). He’s also showing better discipline at the plate. Mientkiewicz credits hitting coach Chad Allen for that, and a running bet Allen made with Walker. Walker struggles with pitches at his knees, so either he or Allen buys a steak dinner every few weeks depending on Walker’s ability to avoid swinging at low pitches. Coaches don’t even mind if Walker takes a third strike slightly below his knees. “The more he makes the guy elevate the ball,” Mientkiewicz said, “the more balls fly over the fence.” Walker lost the most recent bet. “If I get a pitch up in the zone and I get the barrel to it, good stuff usually happens,” he said.

I say bat Walker 2nd in line up. He's bound to not get as many off speed pitches with Buxton on base in front of him. Just trying to help the man out. Lol
